    Faulty switch?

I have some lights on a dimmer switch and they weren't very bright, even when the control was turned to maximum, so I replaced the switch. It's worked all day then the fuse went. I turned off those lights, flipped the fuse back, and the rest of the lights on that ring work. Have I fitted...

    Small mower recommendations

Just gave it a first run and quite impressed actually - easy to assemble, manoeuvres fun and gets pretty close to the edges. Thanks for the advice.

    Small mower recommendations

I have a c25m lawn to maintain and little storage space - can anyone recommend a suitable mower? The reviews on the small Flymo models are terrible and the manual mower reviews aren't good either - what else is on the market?

    Worktop lengths

Hello, I'm after some advice on buying worktops and whether I can make the purchase cheaper. I'm attaching a photo of the plan of the kitchen which should help. The top section (with the cooker hood) and the section with the sink are both 650mm deep but the final section needs to be cut...

    Want grass over my clay

Thanks for the reply. I had read about applying some gypsum and has te remains of a bag of multi finish available. There is quite a bit of sand there from the previous owner's attempt at a pond (or something) so drainage wasn't an issue over winter, despite the weather. How about the...

    Want grass over my clay

Hello I'm after advice on the best grass I should use to get a nice lawn in my garden. The sub-soil is heavy clay. I have lifted a layer and replaced with decent quality top soil last year. The area now has some moss and weeds which I'll get rid of soon. What's the best method for...

    Gas hob not lighting

I have a very old gas hob that is not lighting - I'm ripping out the kitchen very soon but hoping the hob lasts for a few not weeks. The flow to each ring has gradually been getting worse and I now cannot light any of the rings - I did work briefly this evening now nothing. Is there...

Water coming out of condensate pipe

Ok, thank you. The HE is a sealed unit, according to the engineer that looked at the system. He also said it was the old version. Is it something I can "un-seal"? Or is that not possible/would damage the unit?

Water coming out of condensate pipe

Thanks for the replies. Haven't quite followed the suggestion but the ianmcd check didn't make sense to me - is that not relevant? Is the consensus a new HE is needed? I'm trying to avoid spending that money if it's not definitely the right route.

Water coming out of condensate pipe

It's a Glow Worm Flexicom 15HX It's passed just over half a litre in 36 hours. Is that definitely the heat exchanger to blame? I had £340 quoted for the part vs around £900 for the new boiler.

Water coming out of condensate pipe

If water is coming out of the condensate pipe, while the boiler has been off for 36 hours, does that indicate a problem?

    soundproofing a cavity wall

Some slab insulation/acoustic roll with DB check plasterboard. The best method I've found is doubling that with creating an air gap between the two wall surfaces.

help in understanding my roof set up

it's a cold roof. You can insulate between the rafters but you need some ventilation by creating a gap between the new ceiling and underside of the roof covering.
