Would my new dual RCD DB pick up this fault...

Thanks - the shocks were when I touched any part of the metal face plate on 3 light switches, all consecutive in the circuit if that's important - I maintained that they only happened when the washing machine was on but I can't think why this would happen as they were on different circuits so...

Would my new dual RCD DB pick up this fault...

Brief background... Over the summer I started getting bad (i.e. burnt and drew blood) shocks from 3 light switches. Electrician came around and identified fault - said a faulty wire was causing voltage in earth and changed the wire, (making a horrific mess in the process) but also changing...

    Dripping bath drainage pipe

Thank you much appreciated. I will give this a go.

    Raising my bath 5-10mm

Mystery solved... So I don't fully understand what's going on but the 5 legs (1 central) aren't all touching the floor so when someone gets in it moves/flexes until it does. A few turns of the bolts and it's solid. I raised it about 5mm all around which will make sealing a lot easier...

    Dripping bath drainage pipe

Thanks for the reply Copper coloured, but plastic! The connector is the small pipe in the middle with a slight bend in it? Any idea what it's called? (Just difficult to browse in a shop at the moment!) And this would come with a rubber seal?

    Dripping bath drainage pipe

I've finally solved the mystery of my rocking bathtub but in doing so I've realised this pipe is attached very precariously I have pushed it back but it doesn't seem very secure and don't like the thought of leaving it like this under my bath. There's a very old towel underneath so I suspect a...

    Raising my bath 5-10mm

Thank you. The bath is a reasonably nice one. Just had a plumber round for another job who suggested it needs to be lowered, layer of silicon, raised up to stick it on the base of the tiles then raised up. Then a strip to seal the gap, similar to what others here have suggested. She said she'd...

Electric shower removed - what to do with wires?

That was another thought. Would I take off the pull cord, fit connector blocks then put a blank plate over the box (or remove box entirely)?

Electric shower removed - what to do with wires?

Thanks - this sounds like a plan and it'll keep the wires in an obvious place. Another thought was the pull cord. Could I do the same with that and put a blanking plate (do they exist) where the cord was? Leaving the box?

Electric shower removed - what to do with wires?

Had our electric shower replaced with a mixer one coming off the combi boiler. The plumber said they'd sort out the old wiring but I'm assuming it shouldn't look like this... https://photos.app.goo.gl/gjLaWTayaQFEQLf47 The circuit is off at the DB and the shower cord is off but wouldn't take...

    Raising my bath 5-10mm

Thank you - very helpful. I've just done this and it is very wobbly. Looking underneath, the tiles stop above the bath and the wall is then 10mm or so away from the rim of the bath so I'm not sure what the silicone would fasten to. I'm not sure whether this means the bath was badly installed in...

    Raising my bath 5-10mm

Thank you. I realised the hot is on a flexi which is why it moves. Would I need to do anything to the drain and overflow pipes?

    Raising my bath 5-10mm

Thank you! Maybe that's why it moves more than it should - Not siliconed in properly in the first place? I can't see any silicone along the edges.

    Raising my bath 5-10mm

I did and it still came away - I think I didn't use enough silicone to stick the plastic strip on with!

    Raising my bath 5-10mm

Thanks Ken, I was actually using something quite similar - an oval strip of plastic. Sealed using silicone. The problem was that the bath moves somewhat when I get in and out and the sealant around it keeps splitting. Also the rear of the bath has virtually no ledge so I wonder if it might be...

    Raising my bath 5-10mm

I'm trying to re-silicone around our bath. Previously there was some off that plastic sealant that sits under the tiles but it was leaking so I've cut it off - however there's a big gap, even bigger behind the taps. Looking at the bath legs I'm wondering if I can just lift it up a few mm by...

Stopcock doesn't switch downstairs water off

Thanks, I've messaged them and will see what happens. The urgency is our electric shower has broken and I wanted an electrician I know to replace (as I think also faulty cord) so I was trying to avoid having to call out plumber AND electrician.

Stopcock doesn't switch downstairs water off

I didn't think I had a tank but that might make sense - in that case of probably have to give it a considerable amount of time to empty? I've contacted the water company to see what they suggest. Thanks.

Stopcock doesn't switch downstairs water off

Thank you. She definitely didn't as she showed me she couldn't get to the one outside as it had a lot of dirt in, said we'd need to contact the water board to switch off. However if it's just dirty I'm wondering if I could go and clean it myself and get one of those 1m stop cock keys.

Stopcock doesn't switch downstairs water off

Is this a ridiculous question... We had a plumber out recently to change some upstairs taps and one of the things I asked was if she could switch the old stop cock to a quarter turn tap because it was leaking i.e. dripping from the tap, also it didn't seem to turn the water off completely, just...
