Help - Tile adhesive not set

I had no intention of being rude, I'm just trying to fully explore my options. Not worried about the PVA aspect as I didn't apply any. What I am worried about is water resistance. I was looking at the BAL website for a waterproof grout (i.e. barrier to water) and their product data sheets...

Help - Tile adhesive not set

For your information... I just rang the Unibond helpline and they said the adhesive dries by water evaporation and therefore can take some time if it's cold/humid etc. The reason their instructions recommend a PVA coat is to prevent the water being sucked straight out of the adhesive which...

Tank connectors - apply sealant to washers?

It's an interesting topic. Not a lot you can do to deal with a problem if you're on holiday. Best you can do is take preventative measures. Which includes turning off the stop cock and Symptoms recommendation of soldered joints in the loft. I also had a leaky fibre washer from the mains feed...

Tank connectors - apply sealant to washers?

I turn it off at the street also. When my brother stayed for a week whilst moving house, I went away for a long weekend and he couldn't figure out how to turn off the mixer tap so ran downstairs and shut off the main stopcock. Of course this loosened the gland and it slowly drip-dripped and...

Tank connectors - apply sealant to washers?

Isn't this what insulation is for? Would making sure that all pipes are properly lagged and covered minimise this risk? There's also a catch-22 in that I've bought an aqualisa axis digital shower pump and this strongly advocates a loft insulation. But they provide push-fit connections for the...

Help - Tile adhesive not set

Ok, my heart has sunk and my shoulders have slumped, but this was my first time so live and learn. If I grout with some proper recommended BAL and then just cross my fingers, what is likely to happen? Will tiles start dropping off within a week, month, year? I find it difficult to believe...

Tank connectors - apply sealant to washers?

Great tip, sounds like the best way to approach compression fittings - do it up half a turn, turn on water and then tighten to stop dripping. There's no way you can over tighten and you can see with your own eyes that it's waterproof.

Help - Tile adhesive not set

I didn't PVA anything as I had read a very articulate post on here explaining exactly what you just said. Unfortunately, I didn't read (until it was too late) the sticky about what adhesives to use etc etc and so made my first mistake... When I was down b&q getting the tiles I just picked...

Tank connectors - apply sealant to washers?

I'm thinking of it from a diyer angle. It's very nerve-wracking putting all this stuff together for the first time and worrying about whether its under or over tightened etc. The worry with joints is will there be a leak, right? Now, assume you make a joint, put the water back on and...

Help - Tile adhesive not set

Thanks all, (Sorry for the length of this post) I put the tiles up on Fri/Sat and haven't yet grouted (doing lots of plumbing work) so giving it plenty of time to set properly. I had another mosaic incident on Sunday morning. I was scraping a little bit of dried adhesive out from...

Tank connectors - apply sealant to washers?

Cheers. Is there a rule of thumb for tightening connectors? i.e. hand tight, then quarter or half turn? I though I had compression fittings sussed with a few from wickes, nice and easy to make one whole turn. Then I bought some from my local plumbers merchant and j***s, I could only...

Tank connectors - apply sealant to washers?

Hi, In the middle of hooking up a new cold water cistern. The kit came with a tank connector with a rubber washer for the inside and plastic washer for the outside. The instructions say just assemble it and screw it up. It looks a bit dodgy though - is it best practise to dose a load of...

Help - Tile adhesive not set

The mosaic tiles I got are 12 x 12 glass blocks (6mm deep). I cut them down to 8 x 4 to match the brick ceramic tile I'm using. I layered the adhesive on too thickly for the first few rows and have replaced the affected mosaics with a tin layer of adhesive. Should I reapply all the other...

Help - Tile adhesive not set

Hi, Can you tell me if I've messed this up, please? Tiled one wall of the bathroom last night, finished about 9pm. I randomly put mosaic tiles in amongst the normal cermaics. This morning decided one of the mosaics looked rubbish and I went to cut it out. I thought this would be...

    Aqualisa Axis Digital and Flanges

Good stuff, I shall follow the MI. While you're there what's the noise like - equivalent to a power shower? Was wondering whether it needed better soundprrofing than a piece of chipboard.

    Aqualisa Axis Digital and Flanges

In my previous post (http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=104699), an essex/surrey flange was recommended for my installation of an aqualisa axis digital pumped shower. The processor/pump unit is going in the loft. Case A: I have called Aqualisa to confirm their instructions. They...

    Making sure I don't cause a flood.

Thanks, saved my new landing carpet! Will fit the Essex flage as suggested. I thought the HWC would have been air-locked because all the hot taps are turned off. Is it the HWC vent pipe that allows it to empty? Or is it just plain old gravity? Here's another one: If I close the gate...
