    Hole around gas pipe

Thanks. I do have some plastic pipe to hand so I might try that first.

    Hole around gas pipe

The pipe does go into a sleeve/tube but it doesn't come right up to the wall suface, its a few cm short. It's curious that someone filled the bottom part of this hole with mortar but not the top. Meanwhile on the gas meter side I can't see the sleeve as it's obscured by strange putty.

    Hole around gas pipe

Hmm what's the verdict then? Am I meant to sleeve the pipe before filling the hole?

    Hole around gas pipe

Yes it's a Tee that goes into the wall. The gas meter is on the other side of the wall. I'll fill the hole with sand and cement. Thanks

    Floor Insulation

The room has central heating and also a wood burning stove. Only one or the other is ever on, usually the central heating. Thanks for the tips, I will put the celotex as the top layer. There is only electric cabling at one end of the floor so I can easily avoid insulating it.

    Floor Insulation

Hi. I'd like to insulate a first floor suspended timber floor. The space below is unheated and very cold. The floor is 20cm deep. I have enough 5cm thick celotex to do 2 layers and also a load of spare loft insulation. Any tips on how best to utilise it, eg sandwich loft insulation between...

    Damp Patch on External Wall

The kitchen was completely refurbished in 2013, see previous pictures. It ws done by a local kitchen company. It took 2 men 3 days to get to old floor tiles up using heavy machinery so that is what I think caused this. There's no way the copper pipes are in conduits or channels. The pipework...

    Damp Patch on External Wall

Yeah definitely not fun Burnerman. The pipework pictures are taken by peeking under the plinths and would be a real pain to get to, to start excavating. The units under the sink should come out I think and more to the point if the problem is under there, then it's almost certainly been caused by...

    Damp Patch on External Wall

Yep stopping the small tank makes no difference, so the leak is not on the CH pipework. If I tie up the ballcock in the big tank the water meter stops, so the problem is with the HW pipework.

    Damp Patch on External Wall

Yes it's 2 different places. The hot and cold water pipes in the picture above are under the sink and surrounded by unfinished surfaces. So if that is the root cause I have some hope it can be investigated without wrecking the kitchen. The point where the CH pipes enter the concrete is...

    Damp Patch on External Wall

Hi, yes the leak must be in the concrete but I've been trying to figure out which pipe it is first as its an expensive kitchen to rip out and only 12 months old. The kitchen company have agreed to come and have a look. I'm pretty sure this only started after they fitted the kitchen. If it...

    Damp Patch on External Wall

If I tie up the ballcock in the big tank the water meter stops. So if its not the CH and not the cold mains then the only pipe in the kitchen that it can be is the pipe to the hot tap right?

    Damp Patch on External Wall

OK whilst the meter isnt visibly moving, if I record the thousandths dial I can see there is a leak. A thousandth is 1 litre I would think. With the house stop cock off there is no loss at all. With the supply on I lost 1 litre in 21 minutes. With the FE tank supply off I lost 1 litre...

    Damp Patch on External Wall

They are the central heating pipes. They are in the concrete floor throughout the house apart from a small section in the kitchen where they are above the floor. You can see those pipes better during the renovation 3 posts above. I'll turn off the supply to the FE tank which should prove one...
