    Cold Water Tank Overflowing

Hi, My cold water tank in the loft has started to fill and leak water from the overflow. It happens most mornings and started a few weeks ago. The float valve has been replaced twice so that's not the issue. The loft has 2 tanks, it's the big cold water tank that leaks not the small fe tank...

    Central Heating Motorised Valves

Hi, thanks, I think I'll try that. I dont really know why they went to all expense of an extra zone rather then just turning the TRVs down in the 2 unsed rooms. Before trying your suggesion though I'll try to trace the wire labelled ??? as I think that must have been a zone 2 thermostat at one...

    Central Heating Motorised Valves

Hi, thanks. Yes I already did that as explained above: So I know which rads are operated by which valve. It just seems odd that the only way to turn on zone 2 is to manually operate the valve. There is no thermostat or programmer in zone 2.

    Central Heating Motorised Valves

The aga is oil. Yes there will be a separate circuit from the aga to the HW cylinder. Haven't looked yet as I'm happy with how the HW is working. It's the above CH circuits that I'm confused about.

    Central Heating Motorised Valves

It is meant to be a 2 zone system! A better photo is attached. When I turn up the hallway thermostat, the valve on the right comes on and the pipes around it get hot. All but two of the radiators get hot. If I then manually turn on the left hand valve, the two remaining radiators get hot...

    Central Heating Motorised Valves

Sorry about the pics, will take some better ones. In terms of heating controls the radiators have TRVs and there is a thermostat in the hallway. I cannot find a programmer or second thermostat. When I turn the thermostat up the boiler fires up and all of the radiators get hot.

    Central Heating Motorised Valves

Hi, I'm trying to get to grips with the CH in a house I have recently moved in to. Firstly, the house has no gas. The HW is heated by an aga. If the aga is off, the HW can be heated by an immersion on the HW cylinder. The CH is heated by an oil boiler. My assumption is that the HW and CH are...

    Where's My Blockage?

@rules - I can't get a hose pipe down it. The bend in the photo I can force it round but there's another 90 degree bend immediately below the floor so it won't go round that. @nige - My snake goes through but doesn't reach the blockage. I'll try the extra long one you mention.

    Where's My Blockage?

Probably yes. It's so far away from the bath that I can't reach it with a snake or suck it out with the wet vac.

    Where's My Blockage?

My bath drain is blocked and drains very slowly. I've tried everything and am about to resort to taking the floor up. It's a very long way from the bath t0 the soil stack. The pipes and trap that are accessible under the bath are not blocked. The waste pipe is 43mm diameter. After letting it...

PS I watched this video which is very good:

    Motorised Valve Stuck

It's working now thanks. The motor is fine. If you look in the original photo you can see that the brass arm has moved way down below its normal movement range. It shouldnt be anywhere near that grey plastic bit that it was pressing up against. So what's happened is that over time the teeth have...

    Motorised Valve Stuck

I removed the sychron and cogs sprang back into place. I have put it back on and the lever is now engaging the cogs normally. Although it does occasionally skip. I think the teeth of the cog on the sycron are worn.

    Motorised Valve Stuck

Hi, The motorised valve for my centrsl heating does not work. The little lever is loose, no resistance at all when moving it (ie its jammed open so the central heating will not turn off). See picture of the inside of the valve. The lever does not engage the brass part at all. Also that brass...

    Front Door not closing fully

OK it does work as per the picture above. The compression adjustment is tiny (less than 1mm) but setting it to max has helped, thanks.

    Front Door not closing fully

Hang on, there are allen bolts underneath too. So 5 bolts per hinge. They look like these ones (see picture) so I think you were right first time, its the top ones that control the in and out direction (compression). Will have another go. I can see alignment marks as descibed in this picture.

    Front Door not closing fully

Thanks. I can't seem to adjust the door in the right direction. Here's another picture with the caps off. I think the top bolt moves the door up and down and the side bolts move the door side to side. Theres a tiny bolt too which doesn't seem to do much, perhaps its for locking in position after...

    Front Door not closing fully

Hi, When I close the front door (upvc), the bolt does not sit in the hole fully. There's a rim around it and the bolt engages there (see picture) so it's very draughty. If you push the door firmly then the lock engages properly, and the rubber seals then seal properly. IMG_0589 Should I try...
