cheers but i meant more the method of fastening. I believe I've 3 options: - angled screwing with a butt joint (toenailing) - cutting a step out of the stud and screwing straight through that - using metal straps of some kind sorry for all the questions. Oh also what would you use...

Hello gents. If anyone can advise me on this I'd be grateful. Fitting a new kitchen and will be putting 3 wall units onto what I now know of as a paramount wall. It's plasterboard either side of a cardboard egg box construction. I've been reading up on here and decided to follow the...

Boiler Service Clearance and cupboard clash

yeah i will make sure im not one of 'those' customers, im trying to make it dead easy for the service from the outset. Although is that £1 because they forgot and £50 to remove the cupboard? Or £1 to refuse to service it and £50 call out and reattend fee?

Boiler Service Clearance and cupboard clash

okay so as long as the cupboard is removed the day before the boiler is due to be serviced then there's no problem. It does have an 8 yr warranty and will be serviced each year so I guess my next step is to find a good way of fixing a kitchen cupboard to the a stud wall so it can be removed...

Boiler Service Clearance and cupboard clash

Hi all. Just after a few good opinions on this. I've had a new boiler put in, a Worcester 30si combi and it is positioned pretty much in the corner of the kitchen. I'd like to put a cupboard on the adjacent wall but this cupboard will project into the 600mm clearance space needed for...

    alarm call for all

ha! the thread is now more of a ball of wool it seems. Maybe if we keep going it will transform into a balaclava of some kind and then if my alarm does get bypassed I might at least be able to sell it to the burglar on his way out. Some posts have been very useful though :D so thanks all

Is that a standard lifespan or just in this particular case of you not expecting it to last that much longer?

    alarm call for all

I think he's saying that while possible it isn't the main concern for someone fitting a low cost diy alarm, and reiterating the technical data - although accurate - is serving more to confuse than assist people looking for a box that goes dingaling. im grateful for all the posts so far mind...

    boundary line

what height is the fence? if it's your fence and on your land and not over a certain height then you don't have a problem other than thinking of different polite ways to say no, right? incidentally try and always park your car so the driver's side is next to the car that might bash it. then...

    alarm call for all

not wishing to instigate an argument but just on the home insurance element, the best practice is to A: not inform them of it as it is a DIY (Grade 1?) install and, well, in layman's terms wont be taken seriously enough? Is there any process of getting this signed off or something, similar to...

    alarm call for all

thanks a lot for that good practical advice. i am looking into the names you mentioned as comparisons for the texecom brand, honeywell and bosch stand out. is there a height or location requirement for the bellbox for any reason? It needs to be out of reach but not so inaccessible as to make...

    alarm call for all

Okay thanks I'll look out for this compatibility option in the specs. I'm definitely on the right forum, which is good. Just a few more newbie (daft) questions and then I'll have a professional (diy-ed) super smart (within budget) alarm system (hopefully never used).
