Thanks to all the alarm guys who have posted so far. It's all been pretty helpful and I am now looking at texecom devices, when I settle on some kit I will ask again for opinions if that's okay? Mine will definitely be a diy install because I like to do my own jobs where possible...

Well wood wants to rot once chopped up, but i was just going to use an anti-sunlight water proofing treatment, i think cuprinol do a 5 star treatment that does all this in one. do you think it would be better to use some kind of acrylic latex paint? A spot of colour might be nice on this...
