Visible joins in plasterboard after skim

Can't really post a picture of the visible join because it won't show up on the camera. Just had another room skimmed and more visible joins! I'm wondering if it's the fact that the boards are square edge? thus the tape is proud of the surface. Basically we've been using square edge...

Planing moulded hollow 6 panel doors

I have to fit some interior doors, the frames are a variety of sizes. In some cases I will need to take off around 23mm of the left/right sides of a 762mm wide door. We got some cheap doors from b&q and I soon found out that the amount that you can plain from the sides is very small. I says...

    Timber framed houses

Speaking to a tradesman today who does a lot of work in new builds. He says most of the timber framed houses he visits have "huge" cracks in the plaster due to the timber expanding and contracting after a few months. Is this one of the pitfalls of timber framed building?

    Crimp connections

I've got a cheap DIY crimp (the same as my electrician has). Done and few tests and it seems ok. Might invest in a better one. Once the joint is done, is it normal for there to be a little play in the wires? I can just wiggle each wire a little and feel it moving every so slightly. I can...

    Crimp connections

I'm joining 2 x 2.5mm t&e together using crimp butt connectors. Having never done a crimp join before..... Should I be using blue or yellow, I see both except 2.5mm cable? Should the wires overlap inside the connector? This isn't possible in the blue but is in the yellow. When testing...

    Cooker hoses

How is competent defined by asking about a fitting? I went to see my doctor last week, he had to use a text book to a find a suitable medicine for me. By your rules he is not either. Ridiculous. I've successfully fitted and plumbed kitchens and bathrooms. That would give me some level...
