    Sony TV going off randomly?

Have you tried it on analogue only, or an external input only. It could be a problem with the digital tv (freeview) section. It may need a software upgrade.

    Adding an immersion heater

When I do it I'll let you know and if you are in the area, bring a bottle and we'll have a party! I know my question may have sounded a little odd but there is an area on the tank by a soldered joint which has been burnt by a blow lamp and the coating is scorched. It hadn't caught fire so I...

    Adding an immersion heater

The tank is lagged with a coating of foam sprayed all over it so I'm not sure about heating it up with a blow lamp. Would I have to cut away the foam around the bung?

    Adding an immersion heater

Thanks for your prompt reply. Any tips on how to go about it. I can borrow the spanner.

    Adding an immersion heater

I have a 27 year old copper hot water cylinder which has never had an immersion heater fitted. The price of gas seems so expensive now I'm thinking of adding an immersion heater. What are the chances of removing the large hexagon bung (at the top) after all this time without damaging the tank?

Gurgling hot water system open vented

Your method kevplumb wouldn't work as the top gate valve was on the "wrong" side of the vent valve so couldn't isolate the hot side of the system to remove the screw. The gate valves are to isolate the hot side when replacing the tank. I did try undoing the valve half a turn and then quickly...

Thanks. I'll try that tonight when I get home. Watch this space!

New kitchen tap with flexi hoses

I've connected the flexi hoses to the isolating valves and all seems OK. I wrapped PTFE tape round the threads. I thought the sharp edge on the isolating valve would cut into the washer but I didn't overtighten them. Some isolating valves seem to have a flat edge to them rather like a .5" BSP...

Gurgling hot water system open vented

Thanks for your reply. I'm not confident enough to start undoing the connections on the tank coil. I might end up flooding the house! There are gate valves fitted to each connection of the coil. Should they be fully open and if I closed the top one and then opened the vent screw will this...

Gurgling hot water system open vented

there is a valve with a screwdriver slot on a piece of pipe about 4" long sticking up off the pipe going in to the top connection to the cylinder coil. I've undone this half a turn and water comes out. It seem to gurgle at the bottom connection to the coil. Thanks for the replies

New kitchen tap with flexi hoses

Thanks. I thought that was ok

New kitchen tap with flexi hoses

My new mixer tap for the kitchen comes with flexi hoses. The end that connects to the plumbing has a screw on piece with a washer in it, rather like a metal washing machine hose. Can these be screwed directly on to the isolator valves that I fitted last time I did the kitchen. The isolator...

    Sony TV going off randomly?

If the sound stays on when you lose the picture you probably have a problem with the invertor pcb which produces the high voltage to drive the fluorescent tubes. If you set the brightness high as possible and turn any active backlight setting off, and when the picture disappears you can still...

Gurgling hot water system open vented

I have the same problem as other members in that after adding a new radiator downstairs I now have noisy gurgling whooshing sounds in the hot water circuit. Only when on hot water. I have opened the vent by the hot water cylinder on the connections to the spiral inside the tank and only water...
