    Laying flooing in your Cellar

Have the walls of the cellar been tanked? If not then you'll get moisture coming thru the walls (I take it its below ground level).

How to remove engineered wood floor baord.

You could use a hard wax kit to repair the floor. If its a rustic floor then you could fill it with a darker colour to make it look like a natural part of the floor. Otherwise do a board replacement, its relatively straight forward just take your time. Have a look on you yube for an idea on how...

    Condensation under kitchen vinyl flooring

The vinyl is impervious and traps any moisture under it. If the slab didn't dry fully then the damp will be caused by the moisture trying to evaporate and being trapped. You have a few options. 1 - Lift up vinyl and allow slab to dry naturally 2 - Test moisture content remaining in slab with...

    gripper rod gap?

Gripper gap - 2/3 the thickness of the carpet. Door mat an inch thick / 25mm - have a wooden threshold made to size as a normal " square edge" bar is far to low and the edge of the mat will stick up about 12mm. The carpet can be fitted up to the threshold.

    Oak flooring buckled

Did he prepare / screed the floor? If so did he screed over old bitumen? Did he use a bitumen based adhesive? Do you get much condensation on the windows in the room?

    Carpet underlay

When the carpet is installed it is stretched and its the tension that keeps it in place. If its fitted correctly it won't come off - if its not stretched correctly it will lift. As an alternative look at the Blue Heaven range - its made by the same company as Cloud 9 and has an almost identical...

    Carpet creases

Have you fitted it yet? If not then re-roll it around a carpet tube at a 90degree angle to the worst creases. Leave it for a couple of days and unroll - it will be greatly improved.

Is installing laminate flooring really easy?

If the customer wants the skirtings removed and reinstated that gets discussed at the time of the measure and priced accordingly. "I don’t disagree with the professional standard bit but it's you who seem to have taken exception & are arguing about what I personally consider to be a ludicrous...

Is installing laminate flooring really easy?

Good luck with the flooring installation. As mentioned by someone else, take your time and think about what you are doing. Richard C - its your choice to pay or not to pay like its your choice to reply with an uncivilized remark. My point is that if you want a job done you should always get a...

Is installing laminate flooring really easy?

Probably priced on meterage. Why is £240 alot for a days work? The customer gets the price and its up to them whether to accept it, thats why most people get more than one quote. Most floorlayers work on meterage as opposed to day rate - its in there interest to install more to earn more...

Karndean / Amtico floor damaged surface methonol drips

Have you got the Karndean cleaning kit - it contains a basic stripper and a surface dressing. Its probably worth using. If you have a spare tile, drip fuel on it and try the stripper and dresser combo to make sure it doesn't make things worse.

Call your local hire shop and enquire about a floor stripper (tool that works off a transformer and has a vibrating blade about 8" wide). It will make life alot easier.

    hardboard bubble or buckle

Hardboard should be damped down and allowed to dry fully before being laid otherwise it can expand and leave you with a floor like a mexican wave, as you've experienced. What floor covering are you planning on installing? If carpet then you may be able to salvage the hardboard depending on how...

Laminate V engineered floor - Need your advice

Is the flooring from screw fix that you've seen a 3-strip or a single plank? It works out to £20.41 + vat sq.mtr which if its a plank is excellent but its probably a 3-strip. I'm guessing its oak? Using 3mm foam is fine but remember to get the one with built in dpm.

    Real Wood floorign advice

Easiest way to check that they are straight is to use a string line along the edge pulled tight. Looking down the line you can see if any adjustment needs to be made. Alternatively you can fix the string away from the wall but parallel to where you want the floor to be squared from and back...
