Funny that. I put one (energy saving lightbulb 40w) on my front porch light about 4 months ago and it's 'blown' already. Barely lasted longer than a normal light bulb. Anyone know why this happened because it stated that the energy saving bulb would last for something like 3000 hours !! (Not) :?

Mick, Sorry to have kept you waiting :) It was the rear brakes that seemed to be causing the problem, as you suspected. My mechanic stripped them down (took off drum etc.) checked the pads and discs - found that one of the pads seemed to have set solid in it's housing and was badly worn...

Talisman, I'll get some of that cleaner tonight and give it a go...... Hopefully I'll at least get some or all of any gunk pumped out. I too, checked all hoses etc and I also cleaned the filters thoroughly. Here's hoping. :roll:

My Hotpoint First Edition DF54 dishwasher will not end any of it's programmes/cycles plus, there is a burning smell coming from the inside of it. It just keeps washing away unless you switch it off. :( Help !!

Mick, I got my local garage to fit new front pads as it appears that the noise was coming from there. Since then, the noise has started again and now it appears that it is indeed coming from the back of the car (sounds a bit like a slipping fan belt noise but also like if it's metal on metal...

Thanks for your replies, John. I'll probably buy the parts myself and ask my local garage guys if they will fit them for me. Hopefully this will solve the problems with the squealing noise. I'll keep you posted on matters.

John, do you mean I shouldn't buy the pads from any of those two or, get then fitted by either of them ?

Thanks, Strider. I suspect it could be the rear brake pads as you said. I read the MOT report for it (first one this year) and it said the rear pads are a bit worn and they 'advise' replacement for them. I'll get the rear brakes checked out at my local garage - (unfortunately) the warranty...
