    Sealing a skimmed wall

Excellent explanation legs-akimbo. I just couldn't be a*sed... ;) I disagree mason. I think tiles are more durable if installed correctly with proper tanking of the wall etc. The PVC sheets have a very limited life span...very much like PVC windows which are a complete waste of time (and...

    Odd patch on interior wall...

Spot on. Some half-and-half tiler hasn't tanked the wall before tiling so when you use the show water seeps through the grout. This can really only get worse if you don't do anything... You have two choices really. a) remove the tiles and tank the wall (good option) b) Have baths...

    Extractor fan ducting

Does the same rules apply to them as to flues for boilers? Does it need to be 600mm away from your neighbors border, etc? From what I can find about extractor vents there are no specific rule about this. Or have I missed something? Reason for asking is the wall I'd prefer to put the vent...

    Single Oven + ceramic hob

ban-all-sheds is spot on. You can also put a spur off the main ring for the oven, and stick an FCU on it. Makes it nice and easier if you need to service it. :) Remember this is a Part P job...so you'll need to get it approved, or have somebody approved doing it...

    Installing kitchen...

I'm just in the process of installing my kitchen (IKEA as well). In addition to all the advise already given. Here's another suggestion. If you fit a batton along the wall to stand the lower units on it's easier to get them level. Fiddling around with four adjustable legs makes it very...

Low voltage halogen spots off light circuit

Good point. They are of the small triagular typ so you don't actually touch the actual light fitting. But having them hanging off the light switch will help in that case! :) Not a problem, they are 3x20W. Many thanks Spark. :)

Low voltage halogen spots off light circuit

Just wanted to check this is ok. I want to install some cupboard low voltage halogen spots. They are touch sensitive, so put your finger on one and on/off they go! :) I could of course just plug them into a socket and everything would be fine. However, I'm not too keen on having the...

    single oven

ban-all-sheds, are you are refering to Part P for electrics? I wasn't aware you had to notify the Building Control for built in appliances? If you have a part P approved electrican doing the installation, do you still need to notify them? Or do you need a planing permission for it? I'm just a...

    Electric hob clearance?

Thanks kev, very useful information. Professional advice is always deeply appreciated... I know what it says in the installation manual from the manufacturer...I can read... My question was more related to when you boil water => steam => is there a suitable distance to nearby cupboards to...

    Electric hob clearance?

I know there aren't any rules as for gas hobs, but anyone have any recommendations based on experiance? The manufactures normally state the hight to the extractor fan, but what about left and right of the hob to wall hung cupboards? btw, I'll be installing a ceramic hob. Thanks! :)

    extractor fan through roof

Got my bathroom in a flat roof extension. I did it pretty much the same as nstreet is suggesting, but being a felted roof I had to seal it using bitumen. Came out very nice! :)

Replacing Wooden windows with UPVC double-glazed

To join in with the others then... uPVC is NOT weather proof. The plastic dries and crumbles very quickly in sunlight. Wood last vertually for ever if you treat it correctly, and as masona say putting a bit of oil on it now and then isn't particulary difficult.
