    Loft Insulation and Electrical Wiring

Thanks Chri5, Actually I do have the spots but was aware of the point you make so didn't mention them. Re. shower - the only wiring in the loft is the lighting.

    Loft Insulation and Electrical Wiring

Thanks PrenticeBoyofDerry, I have a B6 (or NSB06) fuse and wiring that is either 1 or 1.5 mm so I believe I am in the clear. All lights are single bulbs so no unusual loads.

Thanks for that, I'm pretty sure I conform to your specs but I'll check it out.

    Loft Insulation and Electrical Wiring

Hi, Sorry, this is posted on 2 forums - I originally put it under loft insulation but have been advised that I might get a better answer from the 'sparks' so here it is again. I am about to install loft insulation (mineral wool - SPACE 'Loft Roll') and the instructions on the packing say...

    Loft Insulation and Electrical Wiring

Hi, I am about to install loft insulation (mineral wool - SPACE 'Loft Roll') and the instructions on the packing say 'Insulation must not be laid over electric cables'. This implies I need to lift the lighting cables which are currently (ha ha !) fixed to the joists so that they end up above...

Bosch dishwasher drain hose valve leaking

Cheers; I'll probably do that unless someone unravels the mystery before the weekend .........

Bosch dishwasher drain hose valve leaking

Tony, Yes, that was my initial thought. If so do you think there is any danger in taking it out as long as I loop the hose as high up as possible in the kitchen unit before connecting it into the sink waste outlet? (If you can imagine what I mean)

Bosch dishwasher drain hose valve leaking

Sorry can't take a pic, my camera has been 'borrowed' at the moment. Rang Bosch today and they can't seem to identify it either ! It's more or less cylindrical, 6 cm long with a spigot sticking out about 1cm in the middle. It is fitted in-line with the hose, one end has a push-fit the other has...

Bosch dishwasher drain hose valve leaking

Hi All, There is a plastic valve-like thing fitted into the drain hose of my Bosch dishwasher. It is about half a metre from the end, same width as the pipe, and about 5 or 6 cm. long. There is no mention of it in the manual that I can see. It has developed a leak and screwing the nuts at the...

Can I change a radiator valve without draining the system ?

Hi, I'm not a plumber but I have replaced a normal rad valve with a thermostatic several times without draining the system. I have a kit which consists of two rubber bungs and you push them into the correct outlets in your header tank then you can remove the valve with no problem. I don't know...

    concealed pipework under kitchen sink

Thanks Larry, I think you have convinced me to go ahead with it. :)

    concealed pipework under kitchen sink

Hi, I was thinking of hiding all my pipework under the kitchen sink by putting it in the service void at the back of the base unit and then re-fitting the back panel so that it could be removed for maintenance (hopefully never !). Reason being that we cannot seem to avoid the occasional flood...

    additions to kitchen electrics

Thanks for the response. I got all the manuals out last night meaning to look up the technical info on my appliances today and guess what - left them all in the hall so I can't supply the info. However I think you have answered by main concern which is that I shouldn't need a complete re-wire in...

    additions to kitchen electrics

I am refitting my kitchen and replacing microwave, oven, hob and extractor. I was planning to get an electrician to do the oven and hob so that I wasn’t breaking the law but I now find that the microwave and extractor seem to require more sophisticated connection than the old ones too. (Can’t...

    modifying a kitchen base unit

I think you are about right there IJ, I'll cut the unit carefully as you suggest and possibly try and chat a local (proper) joiner into doing the door cheaply. As mentioned it is a Shaker style and in essence will only involve a couple straight vertical cuts - as long as the panel drops out nice...

saw or plane for internal door fitting

For 5mm I would be tempted to saw at least half off then plane the rest. However I should say that I am not a carpenter and find planing fiddly and hard work. Also, just to contradict myself, I did a similar job to yours once with a budget power plane and it turned out OK. I think I may have...

    modifying a kitchen base unit

Thanks for steering me down the sensible path guys. I probably will end up buying a new unit but as the one I have is useless to me I may not be able to resist having a go at converting it anyway!!!!!!! so I'm still in the market for some tips

    modifying a kitchen base unit

Hi All, I recently ordered some Sheraton kitchen units and got one spec wrong. They won't exchange - watch out for this one - so I am seriously contemplating modifying a 600 base unit to make it into a 500. I think the Shaker door will be do-able if I cut down the vertical join then chop the...
