The total area of the extension is approximately 38m2. Labour cost to build the shell and knock through was £12,000 +vat. I supplied him with all the materials. Carryon

What causes adhesive to set rapidily?

I'm using a brand new tub and fresh tap water. Just mixed a bag I bought a month ago and it stayed 'gooey' for at least 90 minutes. I took my remaining bags back to Buildbase and they said there had been other complaints. So it looks like I got a duff batch. Cheers

What causes adhesive to set rapidily?

I mixed another bag today with a very clean tub and fresh water and the same thing happened. So, I'm taking the rest of the bags back to buildbase to exchange. I wouldn't mind if I'd stored them for weeks in a damp garage, but I only bought them on Tuesday!

What causes adhesive to set rapidily?

Just mixed a bag of drywall adhesive (for dot & dab) and it set like a rock in 20 minutes  I used clean fresh water in a 'bath' that was reasonably clean (slightly dusty and the odd 'crumb' of old adhesive, and the use by date was Jul 2008. What would cause it to set so quickly...

    Carryon's Extension

I did enquire, but the relative position of my house to the next door neigbour would have cast a shadow over their front window. Hence it would not have passed planning. Cheers

    Carryon's Extension

Cant bricks are typically used for feature brickwork where crisp clear lines are required e.g. corner details, window/door reveals, pier work. They can also be used for capping. e.g. http://www.cradleyspecialbrick.com/bs_angle_cant_bricks/bs_angle_cant_bricks.html Yes, about 1937

    Carryon's Extension

I think they were about £1.80 each  I still need to strip the existing 'cant' bricks. Until you mentioned it I'd never thought about sills to the front door, but we'll be putting a large (concrete) stone here anyway so I don't think it'll be out of place.

    Carryon's Extension

Here's a before and after picture of the extension. I had originally enviasged laying the bricks myself, but I simply din't have the time or confidence for such a big project. A local builder did the shell and roof, and I've done all the inside so far except plaster skim. Some...

    Coving, which adhesive to use?

I suppose the same goes with arches too?

    Coving, which adhesive to use?

Going well, just finishing off the plasterboard, then get the plasterer in to skim it. I did envisage having a go myself, but for speed and hassle free I decided to get the pros in

    Coving, which adhesive to use?

I'm soon to put up some coving and just wondered what adhesive to use? I have some Bonding adhesive left over from putting up the plasterboard, is that suitable, can't think why not? Thanks

Is a connection strip inside light switch box allowed?

I've just been wallpapering and had reason to take a light switch cover off to tuck the paper behind. I noticed there's a connection strip inside the box, I think it was added when an outside light was fitted. Just curious are they allowed within the metal box or do extra connections need to...

Quick questions about Dot & Dab

How many 8’x4’ boards should a 25kg bag of adhesive realistically stick, assuming the wall is plum and a gap of no more than 20mm between wall and board? My local Buildbase sells 9.5mm and 12.5mm for exactly the same price of £5.66. I’ve used 12.5mm on ceiling and am tempted to use 12.5mm...

Can anyone recommend a Sliding Mitre Saw?

[/url] Too late mate, I'm already using the Rexon! For the amount of DIY I do, I think it will do just fine, £100 cheaper too. Though I don't doubt everything you've said, the Dewalts are a pleasure to use. Test cuts on the Rexon have proved to be accurate. :) Cheers anyway. PS...

    Part 'P' Testing

Thanks for al the replies so far. My dad says there was much confusion among BCOs and electricians when the P regs were about to come in. It would appear confusion still exists on what a 'competent' sparky can do or not do. Personally I think the situation is awful. My dad's been...
