    Tapping into clay drain pipe

Is there any way of doing it within having to have an access chamber cover on the drive? I'd rather keep it concealed.

    Tapping into clay drain pipe

Hi I'm building a side garage and need to move the downpipes and drain in the picture about 1m to the right. The large downpipe is rainwater and the small one is the kitchen sink. The above ground part is straight forward. Below ground it drains into the old clay pipes. As it's so close I also...

Lead flashing under first floor bay windows

Hi What does the lead flashing under the first floor window do and why is there no flashing under the ground floor windows? I'm thinking about tiling the rendered curve between the up and lower windows and wondered if I could cut the flashing back a bit so there isn't so much of an overhang.

    Block paving

Hi I want to block pave the drive but lay blue slate in the area in front of the windows which a car will also park on. There will be a transition from blocks to slate. What is the best way to make sure this border doesn't collapse over time? Should in lay pin kerbs in concrete as a border to...

    Worcester WRS not lighting up

Hi Hot water has been fine all summer. I switched it to "heating and hot water", the heating came on. Turned it all off for a week when I went away. On Saturday I turned it back on and it didn't fire up at all. I've done these checks but now I'm out of ideas. Pilot light is on Room thermostat...

    Removing a running outlet.

Hi I'm in process painting the house. Other identical houses on our street don't have the gutter down pipe in the middle of the house as shown in the pic. I spoke to a neighbor and they said they had theirs removed as there is a down pipe on the front of both the left and right side walls. If...

    Pushfit Isolator for Central Heating

I needed to isolate some of the central heating while installing some new rads so I stuck a couple of 15mm pushfit isolator valves on the flow and return. I've just read that they can only be used to a max of 65C. Should I rip the floor board up and remove them and what would be the central...

    New Salus RT501RF controller

Hi Got one of these that links to a RXBC605 plug receiver. My previous 20 year old programmer allowed me to advance the heating for 1, 2 or 3 hours which meant it would turn off after whatever period I advanced it. The new Salus only lets me turn the heating up so I have to remember to turn it...

    GRP Roof Leaking

Okay thanks. I've ordered another load of topcoat and about 40 x 60 grit sanding pads :-(. I guess the areas short on top coat are also low lying so the water is pooling in there making it worse.

    GRP Roof Leaking

Hi I'm having a bit of a nightmare. Over the joists of my garage I laid OSB T&G, wetted it out then laid 600g CSM followed by more resin then a topcoat. It's only been down about 2 weeks but now there is heavy rain there are drips coming through the joins of the OSB board in about 3 places. I...

    Render, facia then roof?

Thanks that makes sense. Fitting a batten and leaving a drip edge will mean there is space to render underneath after the fascia has been fitted. One other question. As it's a warm roof the profile of the board will need to be around 350mm. I want anthracite grey boards but the only ones I can...

    Render, facia then roof?

Thanks Craig. As the room is a warm roof I'm not planning on having a soffit. Just the fascia almost flush with the wall. Should the fascia still be install before the soffit or should it be rendered right up to the joists then the fascia installed over the render?

    Render, facia then roof?

Hi I'd like to double check the sequence of events when installing a flat roof on a new extension. I've just had the blockwork completed on a single story rear extension. Joists are on. The flat roof with be VCL>120mm celotex>18mm Plywood>Torch on Felt. Am I right in thinking that because the...

have to use key when shutting new composite door

Even with the new pad we'll start locking it. My wife is the paranoid type and now I've told her how unsecure the door is when leaving it closed on the latch she'll be checking it's locked every hour!

have to use key when shutting new composite door

No it's fine. Thanks for your help. It's probably made me realise that closing it on the latch isn't really secure enough.
