uPVC exterior 'U' shaped sill - where do I get one?

I was going to buy the windows from somewhere like https://www.justdoorsuk.com, and I didn't think a window manufacturer would offer me just a cill. Do you know of any sort of guide that exists to building porches - i.e. how the window frames fit to the cill, and so on? There isn't anything on...

uPVC exterior 'U' shaped sill - where do I get one?

Ah, I see - do you know of any websites that I can order one through? I have found several websites that sell all the other various parts I need to build the porch, including lengths of cill (is it cill or 'sill'?), but I haven't found any that offer the welding service.

Dry hip tile system versus wet (mortar)

I've been investigating dry hip tile systems for the past few days, because my hip tiles' mortar is crumbling and cracking all along the length of the hip, and when I was up there yesterday, I was able to pull six inch lengths of it out with my hands, leaving a powdery surface on the remaining...

uPVC exterior 'U' shaped sill - where do I get one?

I am hoping to build a porch outside my front door - there are already three three feet high walls onto which I want to put three windows, and then put a uPVC door in the space that is left (one of the walls is only a foot wide and there are steps leading down by it, which the door will go at...

12V extractor fan - fitting to mains socket in loft

The time taken to fit an isolating switch is about a thousand times the time it takes me to put a headlamp on. Then I go into the loft and detach the fan wires from the bathroom light, using my headlamp. I got an electric shock in a previous house after allegedly turning off the lighting...

12V extractor fan - fitting to mains socket in loft

I've fitted the fan, a 240v pull cord operated one, from Blauberg. I almost didn't fit an extractor fan at all today because I thought that the space between the underside of the roof and a horizontal beam just behind the eaves was too narrow to get my insulated ducting through, but as it was...

12V extractor fan - fitting to mains socket in loft

I always use a headlamp, I'd rather use that than risk an electric shock. I tried to change a light in my previous house and had turned off the RCD for the lighting circuit - but I got an electric shock from the ceiling light cable - whoever wired the house had obviously done something wrong, so...

12V extractor fan - fitting to mains socket in loft

Should I use the lighting circuit or a mains circuit? Or doesn't it make any difference?

12V extractor fan - fitting to mains socket in loft

Brilliant, that's very helpful, EFLImpudence, it will be a lot easier for me if I don't have to fit an isolation switch, and I have an RCD consumer unit (I'm not sure if that is the correct term - my fusebox uses RCDs), so I think it will be safe.

12V extractor fan - fitting to mains socket in loft

Do you mean none of the sensor operated ones use a light switch to turn on, or all other types as well? By the way, (to everyone), my bathroom doesn't suffer from damp, as I normally leave the window on the ventilation latch (it's a long, 1.5m wide by 25cm high uPVC opener at the top of the...

12V extractor fan - fitting to mains socket in loft

I've found the fan I think I will go for - I take back what I said about there not being many fans that have sensors built in - I was looking at 12v fans before, this one I've found is dirt cheap and will presumably make the wiring simpler, because it doesn't use the light switch to turn it on...

12V extractor fan - fitting to mains socket in loft

Thanks for your further replies! I think I will go for 240v then, and not use an isolator if I don't have to, much less work for me. I am thinking of going for a 240v inline fan then, I have lots of insulated ducting which I bought for the other bathroom's fan, I had to buy 10m and only used...

12V extractor fan - fitting to mains socket in loft

Hi everybody, many thanks for your help. To answer a few of your questions: I would be fitting the transformer to a wooden cross beam in my loft, which is about five feet off the ground, on the same beam that the main sockets are mounted, so I think they will be okay. It's a walk in loft as I...

12V extractor fan - fitting to mains socket in loft

Hi, I want to fit an extractor fan to my second bathroom. I paid about £180 for an electrician to fit one in my other bathroom a year or two ago, and I am hoping to fit one myself and save money. I see that there are 12v extractor fans available, Toolstation do one for around £35. It comes with...

Replacing glazing units in lean to conservatory

Many thanks for the advice, I will have a look at those ali rafters, Notch7! I think I may be better off buying one of their lean to roof kits and using polycarbonate instead of glass.

Replacing glazing units in lean to conservatory

crank39, are you saying that if I remove the white front piece (6) then I should be able to slide the glass unit out, without having to remove the clip (7)? I know from looking at the double glazed units from inside that the gap is narrower than the units I replaced in my bedroom and bathroom...

Replacing glazing units in lean to conservatory

Thank you both for your replies. Can I buy new metal rafters with whatever sort of clips they use? I presume the existing rafters are fixed to the wooden batten that goes across the outside if my house, right at the top of the wall inside the conservatory, and are also fixed somehow to the top...

Replacing glazing units in lean to conservatory

Hi, I have an old conservatory (over thirty years old) and most of the double glazing units have got cracks in, and several of the units have water in, about six inches of it, as the units have failed. I was given a quote from a builder for £4,000 to replace all of the roof glazing units, there...

    Changing euro cylinder with guard

Although this isn't any help to the original poster, I'm glad to see such a device exists to improve security with Euro locks re lock snapping. I can't believe that nothing is being done about this obvious flaw in Euro cylinder design, and I would have thought the industry would be working on a...
