    Mains stopcock replacement

I'm assuming the steel pipe works in the same way & connects with an olive fitting.

Potterton Suprima 50 knocking on shutdown

All is well. Thanks again. I'm glad this was sorted as next week I fit an Albion Superduty CF45, which I'm told works best with the boiler set to max.

    Mains stopcock replacement

Discovered that the gate valve that serves as mains stopcock for my flat does not close fully, leaving water under pressure passing through. I do not want to force it as last week I sheared a gate valve doing this. I have given notification to other residents & arranged for the mains water...

Potterton Suprima 50 knocking on shutdown

Thanks. I had recently done this but as it seemed to make no difference to overrun I returned to the plumbers original wiring setup. I now suspect the reason it didn't overrun is because it didn't have to! A few days ago I turned up the boiler stat... I am about to install a new hot...

Potterton Suprima 50 knocking on shutdown

I have recently had to drain down my hot cylinder & feed/expansion tanks for minor maintenance prior to the impending replacement of the hot cylinder. My Potterton Suprima 50 has started knocking & visibly expanding/contracting on SHUTDOWN. The primary pump is wired to the HW valve & does not...

    Pressure-equalising valve for showers

My research seems to come up with contradictory advice, so I am seeking some clarification. I have mains pressure cold water & low pressure hot water from a hot cylinder. I intended fitting a manual tap/shower mixer to the bath with a pressure-equalising valve, isolating & double check valves...

    Advice on square-edge timber joining?

Thanks masona, Good to have another point of view. I'm going with the 7mm as I have already bought it & I need maximum sound insulation, in both directions, without too much thickness & cost. May use your idea elsewhere though...

    Advice on square-edge timber joining?

Thanks Fitter. I have some web/ratchet straps to hold them together. I guess this is what you meant. I was recommended Gripfill as it sets quickly, although others suggest Pink Grip. Initially I thought dowels would be easier but now I may purchase a Biscuit Jointer.

    Advice on square-edge timber joining?

I am refurbishing the floor of a 1930s flat. The original construction is of well-seasoned 140mm square-edged timber boards nailed directly into a concrete floor (no embedded battens). Over the years the nails have worked loose. The plan is to lift the boards & lay 7mm fibreboard underlay...

Are partitioned cold water tanks available/legal?

I have an old open-vented system custom made for my flat. Not only does it have such curiosities as an oval hot water tank but the cold supply is partitioned internally, to provide an expansion tank for the primary with minimum usage of space. Are partitioned cold water tanks (including...

    Primary flow pipe size?

I am replacing a corroded 100 litre hot water cylinder. The primary flow from a 2-port valve to the cylinder is via a 15mm pipe. The return is joined with 15mm bypass pipe & continues as a 22mm pipe. As the new cylinder will be a 45 litre fast-reheat (muli-coil) design, would it be...
