My daughter has managed to remove some of the top layer from a chip board, beech effect bedside cabinet. This has revealed a white mark on the surface. Is there anything on the market i.e. a stain or a polish that I can use that will at least make the mark less noticable.

I am painting my lounge ceiling (white dulux trade matt). The previous owner smoked a pipe and the ceiling is stained and this keeps burning through my new coat of paint. Can anyone recommend a sealer/primer that I can paint on prior to the final matt coat to stop this happening? Thanks.
