If it is taking a lot of weight from the ground on the outside why is it even a cavity wall? I'm no expert but it doesn't sound like a cavity wall would take the pressure and the wall ties would just crumple under the weight, not support anything. I would have thought a tanked solid wall would...
Not much you can do unless you pay another firm to alter the scaffold and try to get the original scaffolder to reimburse you for it - good luck though.

Chimney balloons are rounded at one end to allow for ventilation of hot and cold air through the chimney. They are not needed in the warmer months and can be packed away flat for reuse when the weather turns colder. AND they are only about £25 :)

IMO open solid fuel fires have more character then an enclosed burner. I have one and it does not deposit ash or smoke in the room :?
You don't have to clean it after you use it - it's up to you but they can smell sooty if left uncleaned. It takes about 60 seconds to clean.
Think about it...
You can use anything - obviously fire proof if using the fire. Slabs, slate, granite, bricks, marble etc. etc. etc. The floor will act as a constructional hearth so just put the decorative on top.

If you are going to the trouble of disturbing brickwork and re-positioning lintels why not support at ceiling level and take the entire breasts down to floor level? Or take the stacks and breasts out completely while you are at the 'messy' stage.
Don't bother with joist hangers, just screw a piece of 50 x 100 to the walls and secure joists to that; like a horizontal stud wall instead of a vertical one :wink:
