    Room-stat v. TRVs

http://www.hpmmag.com/asktheexpertitem.asp?articleID=406 Apart from the requirement to meet building regs these days, I have yet to read a convincing argument as to why the mandatory room-stat, that shuts off the heating to the entire house!, is even necessary when all the radiators are...

    Radiator size/rating/supplier advice please.

I need to fit a new radiator into a well insulated conservatory which is 5m x 5m overall size. The max size of the radiator could be 70cm H x 220cm W. I need a good quality standard white finish radiator (not a ‘designer’ type) and would prefer a larger single panel rather than double...

    Asphalt floor 'hole filler'

Hi guys, I need to repair an asphalt floor. After removing an internal wooden post I am left with a circular hole about 30cm diameter which is down to the concrete base underneath. The asphalt is about 2cm thick. Anyone recommend a decent quick-drying filler that would do the job...

    Room stat v. TRVs ???

Many thanks for the reply but I still don’t quite understand the logic of a room-stat in a lounge area being able to switch off the entire system. Other remote areas of the house could still be cold but the lounge is warm and the boiler switches off because of the setting in that lounge area...

    Room stat v. TRVs ???

My daughter has just moved house recently and her new abode has full gas central heating (it’s not a combi boiler) with a standard copper hot water tank in the airing-cupboard. All the radiators have new TRVs fitted including the large lounge which has 2 radiators. However the lounge has a...

Laminate flooring...door bar/threshold bar advice reqd.

I wasn’t really looking for design critique; I was rather hoping for more practical and useful advice on the products I was looking at .......and any other helpful suggestions for the job in hand. But many thanks for taking the time to reply anyway. :)

    Boss White v. PTFE....or nothing?

OP here. The reason for my thread starter was advice required before changing 6 original TRVs on a 30 year old 8mm micro-bore CH system. http://www.screwfix.com/p/danfoss-ras-c-white-chrome-trv-8-10mm-angled/33140 I’m not a professional plumber (I earn my living in IT) just strictly DIY...

    Boss White v. PTFE....or nothing?

Is it best to use Boss White/jointing compound, PTFE, or nothing at all , around the olives when installing compression fittings in both ‘potable water’ and ‘non-potable’ water situations ? Also same question for radiator 'tail pipes' when fitting new TRVs.

    Which 'inhibitor'?

Fair comment; Sentinel it is then.......I’m buying a bottle of the cheap stuff as well......just for top-ups if necessary. ....I like to live dangerously. 8)

    Which 'inhibitor'?

Thanks for the reply my friend. Sometimes the reason that well known brands are more expensive is because they are just that!...people feel safe with recognizable brand names. However, is the price differential worth it when it comes to inhibitor? :?

    Which 'inhibitor'?

Need some inhibitor etc; Any thoughts on this stuff?; only a fiver! http://www.jtmplumbing.co.uk/jtm-chemicals-292/corrosion-inhibitor-10108.htm or same site sells Sentinel X100 @ £14.40. http://www.jtmplumbing.co.uk/sentinel-160/sentinel-x100-inhibitor-1ltr-3746.htm Which should I go...

Old & knackered TRV needs replacing.

Many thanks for your recommendation............I’ve decided to use the opportunity and change the remaining 6 TRVs as well. £11.99 each from S/fix. http://www.screwfix.com/p/danfoss-ras-c-white-chrome-trv-8-10mm-angled/33140 Also, need some inhibitor etc; Any thoughts on this stuff...

Old & knackered TRV needs replacing.

I need to replace a failed TRV on a radiator that has 8mm microbore copper piping. The radiator/TRV/piping are all original and have been in place for approx 30 years. I know that I’ll need a 15mm-8mm reducer as all modern TRV’s have 15mm connectors (is that right?). However I’m unsure...

Loft water tank - overflow pipe problems.

Hi Peet, I'm still wearing my anorak. :) Thanks for the post - very informative; your description of the battle between descending water and ascending air-bubbles wins it for me. Now that between us (you, me and John 'Burnerman'), we have solved the ancient and vexing problem of of how...

Loft water tank - overflow pipe problems.

Hi Peet, thanks for the post. I have to say as a non-plumber (I work in the IT business) I have found this issue quite fascinating. I do love plumbing; especially when there are wonderfully knowledgeable people like you guys to help me out. As I said in my OP the 3m x 21.5mm pipe and bent...

Loft water tank - overflow pipe problems.

Hi John, I have no way of knowing but my two neighbours live in detached houses exactly the same as mine, so no doubt the plumbing was installed and tested  by exactly the same bricklayer. Regards
