    wiring problems

That's what I though initially, but then I reread and interpreted it slightly differently. "I can switch the one light off and on via the switch" meaning, I can try to switch the light on an off by operating the switch on the wall. "but the one light stays constantly on" meaning, but it...

    wiring problems

I think you should ignore the howls of protest from here, grab your neon screwdriver, and use it to work out what wire goes where. What the function of each wire is. Guessing is likely to result in a short. swelec's suggestion would have been my guess too. But if the lamp stays on it seems...

    Electric (230v) Wall Chasers

At the risk of getting slapped for dragging this back :) The one I bought allows you to attach a vacuum cleaner to the back while in use. You only opt not to do so once :D especially if you were 'just trying it out' and didn't wear a mask.

    Electric (230v) Wall Chasers

I bought one on eBay not so very long ago. Works for me.

    Connection unit/junction box

Possibly not, but I'd prefer it. Just feels right somehow, to have it all fixed in position.

    Connection unit/junction box

Measured the push outs, they are 4mm so that's probably no coincidence. I take it I need to fit some kind of screw/post to connect the crimps all together, to. Time for a quick trip to the local DIY superstore I think. :) Thanks for your time/experience.

    Connection unit/junction box

Excellent, thanks. The box I have has push outs for holes anyway (was only using 2 to fix to walls so could measure/open up one of the others to use). It is galvanized so paint isn't a problem. Regarding your other suggestion, do you know where they might do smaller versions ? I have...

    Connection unit/junction box

Have to say that this bit isn't going so well. Bought an adaptable box (from tlc rather than the screwfix one shown, as it was less deep). Turned out not to have anything to attach a choc block too. Decided to try using it anyway. Have now realised that as a metal box it will have to be...

    External Socket

It has provision for a drain hole. and out the back isn't that much different to out the side, for which a push out is available. But I'll take that as none provide a back entry hole then.

    External Socket

Do all weatherproof sockets require entry from the sides or top or bottom ? Somehow I imagined that a rear entry wouldn't have been the more obvious, until I looked at one.

is this possible: 2 way Double switch

Maybe the problem was, how does one buy a single switch 'unit' that has a single pole double throw switch on the left, and a single pole single throw switch on the right ? I'm sure one can find a double spdt and just ignore the unused terminal though. (In which case, best to connect the...

    Installing a main electrical box

I know nothing about the US system either, but I think I've now learnt something. Anyway, seems to me that if you get 120v rms from each live to neutral, and no difference when you measure between them, sure suggests both live are in phase with each other, to me. Can you get hold of anything...

Great, I need a few more items anyway, I'll put one in the order. Cheers.

    Neutral out in consumer unit

Did it touch something it shouldn't have, when it came out ?

    Connection unit/junction box

Thanks for that. Did spot the adaptable box last night, Wasn't sure what was significantly different between them and the standard metal box I fit the switches into, but a definite possibility. But that brings me back to my other question. If I'm using one with a choc block connector, What...

    bathroom "ping pong" light swtich

That does sound strange. A switch is usually a momentary click, and that's it. Are you sure it isn't turning something on that is making the noise ?

    Connection unit/junction box

I am , and I'm not. :) Yes that is exactly the function I want, but I don't want to have the cables on show. Done a lot of thinking and changing my mind about this already. My initial act was to go out and get one of those. At the time I was contemplating fitting it next to the fluorescent...

    How many lights?

18 * 50 W = 900 watts. I'm unsure how many lumens that is for halogen, but quite a few. You sure you want it that bright ? Exactly how large is this large area ? 900 W / 230 V = 3.9 A which is the least of your worries.

    Connection unit/junction box

Can one buy what would be the equivalent of an unfused unswitched connection unit ? (It would need a minimum of 4 terminals. I'd need to connect 4 lighting cables.) Before anyone asks, I am trying to avoid hidden/inaccessible junction boxes above the ceiling - please humour me. :) Or...
