I think the forum rules bars making contracts here, but the stock answer seems to be www.yell.com :)

    Loop lighting problems!!

Lighting isn't normally connected in a loop so I'm a little put out by that. Also one doesn't normally have 3 neutrals and a live at the ceiling rose. Have a look at the diagrams in the sticky thread at the top. If the upstairs lights are not working then you have a break in the mains...

    Earth Wires

No, no need to thank me, it was a pleasure. Any other problems, just ask.

    Earth Wires

I'd read the signatures for fun only, if I were you. You could become confused otherwise ;)

    Earth Wires

Depending on circumstances, you may be risking a shock if things go wrong. Note that often there are metal bits you can touch, such as the bolts to hold it on.

    What's wrong?

Which trip is this ? My first thoughts are a faulty metal fitting, possibly with a leakage to the metal case. Can you disconnect the new fitting and check out the resistance between each wire, and between each and the metal case with a meter ?

    Sorry, probably an obvious question.

Cheers also. Yes noticed the 2nd link wouldn't work - some form of forum censorship has replaced the site name with something about no-ads. I could probably write it in full here, but if the forum owner doesn't like it, maybe I shouldn't. Seems a little over zealous though.

    Sorry, probably an obvious question.

:) I should have guessed. But better safe than sorry. Thanks both.

    Sorry, probably an obvious question.

For those not wanting to read all the waffle below, how do you wire a 3 way switch circuit using the new colour scheme ? ----------------- Done it quite a few times before but want to get the colours right. Unless I have misunderstood this implies ... Blue has been replaced by Grey...

    Dimmer switch earth

Things are known to break from time to time. If it were me, I'd replace the dimmer and see if the problem went away. I take it this fault condition is permanent at the moment, so if it's fixed it would be obvious.

How many lights would you like ?

    rusty screws

All depends on how badly gone they are. You can get bits to dig in and unscrew them if you have a drill with reverse gear. Or worst comes to worst, you can always drill them out.

2 way light switch won't go off

professor: Given the speed of light as 3 x 10^8 m/s and the density of water as 1km/m^3, what's my age? Student: I'd say about -- 46. Professor: Excellent! How did you know that? Student: You see, sir, my brother's 23 and he's only half-mad. You connected the live permanently to one of...

Umm ... just intrigued. So it's when the work started that's important for Part P ? Not when it finishes ? (Please, yes/no if possible, rather than link to part P, would be much appreciated. Thanks)

    polystyrene wallpaper backing

When I moved in to my previous place, it had polystyrene sheet under all the bedroom wall wallpaper. Not sure why one would need to ask, why remove. Can understand the question, why put up though. Every slight knock marked the wall. Just scrape it off, that's what I did. And you may find...

    CU features

That sounds a good idea. Hmmm PCs and alarms from this thread, fridge/freezers from another. I'm beginning to get the impression that every room on the house needs to be on 2 separate rings, RCD and non-RCD !
