    All Electric limits

Thanks Steve. I have thought long and hard about Heat pumps (both air and ground) and looked into it. The upheaval is not very attractive and the cost of a bore hole is as much as the unit. The outlay is high but as you say running cost relatively low. Not sure that it is cost effective for me -...

    All Electric limits

I recently moved to a house that is all electric. There is no main gas supply and I do not have lpg or oil. Now winter is approaching I am thinking about turning the heating on (NSH) and thoughts turn to other electrical appliances - instant inline water heaters, extra radiators etc. I...

New laminate floor - under skirting

Not really - Maybe I will have to do it properly then by removing the skirting and hoping I don't damage the decor too much.

New laminate floor - under skirting

I have a laminate floor that I want to replace with a better one. At the moment it looks like it was laid and then the skirting put on to hide the expansion gaps. I would like to get the new floor under the skirting without removing it as that would cause a lot more decorative work than I...

    DIY SOS

I saw an episode of DIY SOS yesterday. Part of it involved a wall with much plaster missing. The wall was plastered, painted AND had a picture hanging from it by the end of the day. How was this possible?

    Mound in self levelling compound

No, stuck down firmly. When I ran the straight edge along it to even it out when wet, I wasn't careful enough at that point where the mound is (ie, too much compound at that point) - the rest is fine. It dries so quickly and being latex was forming a rubbery crust so I had to work fast and try...

    Mound in self levelling compound

Hmmm. There is a mound about a foot or so across in the wickes latex self levelling compound I laid yesterday - don't know why - obviously I did not take care enough. Anyway, question is how to get rid of it and level with the rest. Orbital sander? belt sander? and when - now or wait...

    self level on self level

Oh well, nobody seemed to know. Waited 24 hours then used same mix over and around first lay. Seems alright so far - will see when it dries more.

    self level on self level

I have already laid some latex self levelling compound but have run out and there is still more to do. Is it ok to lay more over the top of the last and also butt up against it? Does it have to be the same sort of compound? How long do I have to leave it before I can do another lay? Thanks

    parallel wiring

Thanks to all. Ok, I agree that it would be better to lay the 10mm cable awaiting later connection. It is actually to a shower in the bathroom, where it is tiled floor to ceiling. Needs redecorating (including retiling) but not ready yet - too many other things to do, and it is usable as...

    Towel Rail / radiator

Thanks. Looking at these it says there are 3 wires. I take it the live and neutral replace the existing switch live and neutral and the yellow switched wire goes to the towel rail. Is there one with a wireless remote sensor?

    Towel Rail / radiator

Don't know if this belongs here or central heating. Anyway, we are all electric here. I have a towel rail in the bathroom that is used as the radiator more than heating towels. There is no room for anything else. The supply is switched outside the bathroom and the cable comes out of a plate...

    parallel wiring

thanks guys I do have an undersized cable but cannot get to changing it yet as it will mean removing tiles, and I am not ready for that yet - I have lots of other work to do. The existing cable runs from a ceiling high CU up under bedroom floor and down again to appliance. It is 6mm on a...

    parallel wiring

Sorry, should have said. I read the other posts on this issue, but there didn't seem to be a difinitive YES/NO answer - or maybe I didn't understand there to be one.

    parallel wiring

If you have an appliance fed by say 6mm cable and you replace that appliance for a higher wattage one that requires say 10Kw, can you just wire another 6mm cable in parallel to the existing one rather that rip out and replace with 10mm?
