    removing emolsion

rhino36, ive just done the same (steamer and scrapper) i found it worked great on plasterboard walls but started to bring the plaster of on a normal wall. It was easier to do than stripping wallpaper, 10/15 seconds with the steamer and the emulsion virtually came of its self.

BAL apd, how long can you leave

Just coming to the end of my bathroom refurb and although i was going to get a tiler in im sorely tempted to do the tiling myself, as was my original plan. My question about BAL-apd is ive prepared the walls 2 of them plasterboard with a skim of plaster and if i use BAL apd as the primer is...

    Shed Base

I use sleepers made from 3x2 rough sawn timber. I give them a coat of primer then undercoat and finally a coat of gloss, using cheap paint. I suppose you could just give them to coats of gloss. That rough sawn soaks up the paint though. I got a new shed last year and after dumping the old one i...

    Plastering over sand and cement

Cheers Always Learning, whats "browning". Can i use the finishing plaster i have a small bag off, in layers. I had wet the area before plastering as i always do so i wasnt expecting any cracking. Maybe it was because the house was very warm the day i done it.

    Plastering over sand and cement

Cheers jbonding, ive never had a problem with plaster sticking to sand and cement, it seems to stick to everything. Pity i didnt hear the end of the pub conversation :D . The only time ive had things go wrong is when using finishing plaster to do patch up jobs, if ive laid it on thick it...

    What plasterboard do i use

Im just coming to the end of a marathon bathroom job, i was going to use aquapanel on the wooden stud wall but i cant get the size i would like unless i pay a silly amount for delivery. Plus there was a thing about it needing a vent behind it, this i got from the tech people. I still havent got...

Putting extra studs in partition wall

Yeah i knew they meant only single skin, but i think the venting behind the aquapanel needs some clarification. Does it need a gap if so were do you stand on putting rockwool in as insulation. I will give them a call if i get time and find out, somebody else asked what was the venting about and...

Putting extra studs in partition wall

Is aquapanel stronger than normal plasterboard, like more rigid. I ask because i was originally going to put 2 skins of 12.5mm plasterboard up. The plan then changed to 1 x 12.5mm plasterboard overplated with 1 x 12.5mm aquapanel which i though was the best way to go until i rang Knauf up and...

Putting extra studs in partition wall

Its extra uprights i need to put in all. Let me explain, i had a partition wall replaced and instead of putting the studs/uprights on equal centres there all over the place. These studs were then covered with thin plasterboard (9.5mm) and a skim of plaster, hardly the strongest structure to hang...

Putting extra studs in partition wall

I have a partition wall that needs some extra studs fitting. Its made from 3"x2" rough sawn timber and has cross members, i dont know if you would call them noggins. The plasterboard has been removed on the side im working from but the problem is i cant remove the board from the other side. The...

Whats the best insulation/ sound deadening material

OK, thanks all. There,s a fair old choice there. The jobs stopped for the moment, my heads banging my eyes burning and that delightful cold fluid streaming out of my nose. Ive lost that much fluid via the nostrils im probably suffering dehydration. Its probably bird flu ive got although my wife...

Whats the best insulation/ sound deadening material

Thanks oilman, those bricks and cement blocks sound awful heavy to me, I could just see the joist sagging and groaning under the weight :) . Seriously though i would just rather put some kind of insulation in the wall rather than nothing. The sound deadening is mainly because the wall devides...

    Water damage to joist

Cheers for the input, somebody at the builders yard said this morning i would be better cutting the affected bit out so thats what i done. 3hr,s that chiselling took me, cos some of the joist is under a partition wall. I definetly wouldnt recommend it, especially when youve got a runny nose :)...

Whats the best insulation/ sound deadening material

Whats the best insulation/ sound deadening material

I have a partition wall made from 3"x2" studs it previously had rockwool as insulation/soundening, is this the best stuff to use. I ask because i watched a builder across the road converting a garage in to a room and he was using what looked like thick blocks of expanded polystyrene. Would this...

    Water damage to joist

One of the joists under my bathroom floor has been damaged by water leakage. When i first seen it it was wet after soggy chipboard sitting on it i let it dry out then a building firm came and said it was ok and painted some green stuff on it. I am now putting down a new plywood floor so the...

    Mixing aquapanel with plasterboard

They were saying something about a airduct or such, I will give them another call tomorrow and clarify if i get the chance. My brains have turned to sawdust with having so much work to do in the bathroom. Im gonna make a couple more posts in building forum, one over a snag ive hit today...
