    Biasi riva advance overheating

Hi, I have a biasi riva advance 32HE. Its about 3 years old. The DHW temperature is cycling. The water is getting up to full temperature, then it cuts out and runs cold, sometimes the burners will reignite and it will continue to cycle from hot to cold. Sometimes the thermal cut out...

    bbq / outdoor oven

My brother has just ripped out a load of storage heaters from a customers house. He was going to bin the lot, but we are thinking the bricks in them might be of use for this project. The way a storage heater and the way one of these ovens works is pretty similar..... Any thoughts.....

    Considering a career change....advice apreciated

Jay, Thanks for that informative post. A couple of days after I last posted on this thread I got a call from the college as someone had not turned up for the night classes. I am now enrolled on 2330. It is two nights a week for 3hrs, one night practical and one night theory. I think it...

    Considering a career change....advice apreciated

Thanks everyone...A bit of an update on this. I went down to the local college open day. The lecturer suggested C&G 2330 and it turns out they do it as an evening course, so although it would take a year longer that way I would be able to work in my paid job full time....or work in my paid job...

    Considering a career change....advice apreciated

Thanks for the replies. I realise that an apprenticeship would have been the best thing to do....and if I was 18 again I would be signing up for one now.... I could easily do one day a week for 2 years, but with the remaining 4 days I would need to carry on with my current job to pay the...

    Considering a career change....advice apreciated

Hi, I have been recently thinking about a change of profession, as I have reached a bit of a dead end in my current job. My dad and brother are both self employed plumbers and I like the flexibly that this kind of work gives them. As I think 3 plumbers would be a bit of a crowd I am considering...

I am planning on building a bbq and outdoor wood fired oven. my plan is to cast a slab which I will then place on brick supports to form the cooking hearth. I was then planning on casting a tunnel type structure which I would sit down on top of the hearth to form the roof and walls of the...

    Outdoor pizza/bread oven

Hi, sorry to hijack this thread - I was just about to post another question regarding a brick built oven. I am thinking of casting a slab which I will then place on brick supports to form the cooking hearth. I was then planning on casting a tunnel type structure which I would sit down on top...

Dewalt DW 742 & DW 743 flip table saws

Thanks very much for that response. so when you use it in chop saw mode you have to start and stop the motor with the green/red buttons.....I can see that the addition of a trigger button was a good idea!

Dewalt DW 742 & DW 743 flip table saws

Hi All, I have just purchased a job lot of DW 742 flip saws. The saws that I have bought do not have a trigger style switch on the saw when it is in chop/mitre saw mode. I also have a DW 743, that I have had for a while, this does have a trigger switch for chop sawing as well as the...

Rendering an old garden wall???? - with pictures....

That sounds like a good course of action - I guess the re pointing needs doing whatever the final outcome. The job is going to be delayed now as when I was removing the soil piled up against the wall I accidentally disturbed an old well, complete with about 8ft of crystal clear water!

Rendering an old garden wall???? - with pictures....

It is a 4" wall - only 1 brick thick. It goes up to two bricks thick only where those buttresses are. This is why I am concerned about the missing pointing, in places on my side it has fallen out to a depth of an inch or more so there is effectively only 2-3" holding the wall upright. I...

Rendering an old garden wall???? - with pictures....

That is a god point, I would end up smashing chunks of render off the other side of the wall. I would then have the problem of having to repair this....trying to match the finish etc.... so I think that is a definite no. Good job I didnt have the hammer and Chisel out too quickly  Thanks :D

Rendering an old garden wall???? - with pictures....

Wow, lots of discussion there, this is what I was looking for. Thanks chaps. My concern is that it appears that once the brick face has blown the rate of erosion of the brick seems to increase greatly. Some have eroded in by an inch or more, with the majority of the wall only being one brick...

Rendering an old garden wall???? - with pictures....

From looking through some other posts I think this week might be good to start this job, its going to be mild and fairly dry. I am planning on brushing away any loose debris and PVAing.....I dont really know what to do after this, are there any online guides to rendering an external wall...

Rendering an old garden wall???? - with pictures....

Hi All, I have a 5ft high brick garden wall that is damp and has quite a lot of blown bricks. The house was built in the 1890's and I believe the wall to be original as all the other houses in the street have one. I am guessing that some of the damp problem might be related to the poor...
