    Footings

I don't think it is dependent so much on size, but as the last poster points out, ground conditions etc. I am part way through a double storey extension. We have clay soil so generally council here want 1.2m. An architect will be able to assist. With ours, we used a structural engineer due...

Does the planning permission process cost a lot of money?

I did my own drawings, so no cost there if you are up to it. They were perhaps a bit crude, but they were sufficient. Submission cost to council £172. So total cost to get PP for me £172. Subsequent drawings I had done for building control £475.

Raising Roof - Neighbours object, will it be refused?

Hi there I am now part way through my build after getting PP about July time. I had a neighbour object for similar reasons as you state. I say object, it was more of a rant really! When I found out the neighbours had objected, I took some pictures centred around their objections...

    DIY timber extension kit?

I am not a builder or anything like that but an enthusiastic diy'er who has just got pp for a double storey rear ext and some roof work to my Potton dormer bungalow. I wouldn't bother with Potton for an extension as they won't be interested as I approached them about a bolt on kit for my...

    Building regs drawings

Thanks for reply Paul, however I'm sorted now - managed to find a friend of a friend who is doing it for a reasonable price. I've got hold of the original building regs drawings from copyright holders along with structural calcs etc so no need to be punching holes in the plasterboard to see how...

    Building regs drawings

Yes £500-1000 was more like what I was expecting. Re complexity, it's a timber frame detached and I'm looking at a double storey rear ext and some roof alterations. Thing is its a dormer bungalow and I had chap round tonight who was saying that he would need to see original plans to see how it...

    Building regs drawings

Ok thanks, are you saying cheap plans as opposed to cheap planes? What I am talking about is that I have been quoted £2k for drawings, then I see some internet website that does it for £500. I guess a happy medium would be nice. Anyway I think I have identified a couple of individuals now...

    Building regs drawings

Hi all Can anyone recommend someone in the Brentwood, Essex area who can do building regs drawings? PP has been granted on drawings done by me, so need proper drawings done now with all the specs on etc. Having been quoted 'Yellow Pages' prices, possibly looking for someone who does it...

    Combi DHW goes hot/cold/hot etc

Hi I have a Potterton Performa 28 that is about 4 yrs old. Recently I have noticed that the shower goes hot/cold/hot/cold (thermostatic bar type). Other hot taps do similar but not as noticeable as the shower. Now if I turn the flow down the situation improves so having searched on here...
