    External Render Options...

Morning all. I have a 1930 3-Bedroom Bungalow, built from Norfolk Reds. The brickwork is extremely scruffy, it has had alterations over the years where non-matched bricks were used and there are various other faults that are simply too much to do anything else with. As much as I hate to say it...

    Cavity Wall Insulation... *Updated*

JohnD, thanks for your help. We do dry washing in the house, although there is only 2 of us at home, so try to keep it minimal and ensure that the Dehumidifier is definitely on 'high' at this time. The bathroom extractor is used every time the shower is used, I admit we don't keep the bathroom...

    Cavity Wall Insulation... *Updated*

Just checking back in on this one. It's been about a month since I went around and opened all my trickle vents. Obviously in that time, the weather has got colder, but the condensation is at an almost unbearable level. It is even collecting on the Downlighters in the ceiling (there is of course...

    Cavity Wall Insulation... *Updated*

OK, I'll look at that. I'll replace the airbricks and duct to the subfloor. They are a mess as they are, the Cavity Wall installer just gummed them up with Silicone Sealer.

    Cavity Wall Insulation... *Updated*

Oh really? So they should be ducted into the subfloor? Am I to assume they would have previously been open to the cavity, hence why they blocked them?

    Cavity Wall Insulation... *Updated*

freddymercurystwin - Thanks for that, I'll crack the trickle vents open tonight and see what happens. JohnD - In all honesty, it was hard to measure because we made so many changes at the same time. It's not a warm Bungalow though, but I do still have some work to do with insulation (the loft...

    Cavity Wall Insulation... *Updated*

I have a couple of questions regarding Cavity Wall Insulation. We had Cavity Wall Insulation installed a few years back, I think they used Rockwool (it's a white, wooly material). The Bungalow has a number of Air Bricks at low level, presumably venting the sub-floor. When they did this work...

Relationship broken down with builder - am I being unreasonable

Genuine question, if you're confident in your work, why would 25% bother you?

    Doorstep Foundation...

I'm in the process of building a new front Doorstep. I'm planning to build formwork, before pouring a Concrete foundation, then laying stone Treads and Risers onto a Mortar bed. There is an existing structurally sound cast-in-situ Concrete step in place that has been there for almost 100 years...

Connecting to Lead underground mains water pipe...*Updated*

By the way, I'd love to hear about the 'other issues'. I'm a student, not a teacher. ;)

Connecting to Lead underground mains water pipe...*Updated*

Looking at the first pic, you'll see hefty joists in place over some of the sub-floor. These now span the whole sub-floor. What is 'crawl space'? I'm pretty sure that this type of structure was never designed to enable someone to crawl around under there retrospectively. Bottom line is, there...

Connecting to Lead underground mains water pipe...*Updated*

Right, I've had a further dig. It's more mysterious. Here's what I have. This photo was taken immediately outside the wall to the right of this picture... (original pic reposted)... Outside... The pipe coming in from the right is the supply. It's magnetic, so I assume it to...

Connecting to Lead underground mains water pipe...*Updated*

Actually, saying that, the vertical pipe does look good doesn't it?! It actually looks like plastic. The first time I see it is horizontally, coming out of the foundations about 1 metre down on the other side of that wall. I need to dig further I think, see what I find.

Connecting to Lead underground mains water pipe...*Updated*

The pipe that comes up from the floor, as far as I know, is the original pipe, which at this stage I'm assuming to be Galvanised steel. The floor above that is expensive porcelain tiles and with underfloor heating, so pulling it up would be carnage. If the pipe had failed, I would have to do...

I guess I can tell for sure as Steel will respond to a magnet?

Connecting to Lead underground mains water pipe...*Updated*

I'm all in favour of replacing it and can/will defer the driveway job until this work is done. But I cannot imagine how to make this final connection. That's my issue. I totally agree on the potential problems that could be encountered in the future. This is partly why I have considered...

Connecting to Lead underground mains water pipe...*Updated*

Here's what the pipe looks like as it enters the property. This is now underneath my bathroom... A lot of what you see in the picture has changed now, but of course the pipe in question is still as you see there. It passes through the concrete subfloor to a point just outside the wall...
