    Bathroom, tiling under WC pan

It does not take rocket science to cut a tile around a toilet. Just make sure you centre the pan to your cuts, ie 4 tiles . The rest is easy with a bit of cardboard, shape maker etc...................

    Base for ceramic tile

Sorry, but the answer was completely wrong. YOU never use 4mm let alone 6mm exterior ply. Building regs for UK tilers state at least 14 mm ex ply. The problem is that the thinner the ply, the more likely the movement, even if it is going on a solid base. I've been tiling for 25 years and...

    Sub floor for Tiles

There is not many good quality floor tile adhesives which like chip board , so stick to ply. Don't forget to get flexible adhesive and grout or the liquid to mix with them to make it flexible as your going onto wood, and pva the wood with a mixture of 1 to 1.

    Re-Grouting Floor Tiles

Hi, you can buy a grout racker which is used by hand and is time comsuming but will do the trick. There are electric tools on the market for this as well, but unless your doing all the time I'd stick to the racker. Make sure you go down a good way as you don't want the old grout to show, and...

    Poor qqality grout job

I've been a tile since the year dot, so here goes the questions you should ask them; What thickness ply did they use? It should be 15mm, but 12 mm will do, any thinner........problems. How did they secure the ply to the floor? It should be screwed not nailed as any movement nails can move...

Stone Floor - How to restore???

Hi Nova, I deal in ceramic tiling , so I can answer some of your questions. Firstly, taking up floor ceramics is always a pain, it all depends on the type of adhesive used to put the tiles down with. Usually, a hammer and bolster does the trick, even better a sds hammer drill with the...

    which grout?

Don't use ready made grout from a shop, it's rubbish and only lasts a year or so. Get Bal, Ardex or Howtex, even Nicobond from a good tiling shop. These are all powder grouts to be mixed with water, get it to a good working paste. The guys in the shop can sell you the tools for putting it on the...

    Sealing a bath

First of all, is your bath a 'plastic' type? If so, then before sealing the bath should have been over half filled then sealed so that the silicone was put in when the bath had a mid-way point for weight. Secondly, if you had big gaps, you should have use the above method, plus before the...

    Floor tile sealer

I agree with jasonb. There are three stages with the tiles you have : 1 st there is the liquid for colour inhancing 2nd there is the sealing and 3rd there is the waxing. What you can buy is a product to take off the wax, but once the first two things are done, its vertually impossible to...

    Tiling a concrete garage floor

Paint is always a dodgy thing in tiling. Basically, if its gloss paint your OK. The best thing to do is call someone like ardex.co.uk , the help line is on the web site, and they will advise you further. You could try skimming off the paint with a grinder or paint stripper, making it good...

    tiling around bath

Geome, there are several reasons why I tile after the bath is in. The first is that due to the curve on the edge of the bath where it mates up to the tiles means there is a greater depth for you to silicone, meaning more chance of a leak later on. Basically, tiles sit on the edge of the bath...

    Re-tiling bathroom

Rgee, I would'nt start up the top. Make sure all tiles are well stuck, any loose tiles pull off and render that area with sand/cement. Most tiling starts with making a line horizontal and vertical halfway on each wall , you then have cross on the wall. The horizontal line can be taken around...

    Caulk bleeding into grout line

Your best option, when you have cleaned off the old silicone, is to use painting tape along the line of tiles, making sure it sticks down tightly onto the grout as you go. Once it is all stuck down you can then re-seal, and smooth down to the desired effect. When you smoothed the silicone...

Bath edge plastic trim or silicone?

Use silicone, but remember, as it's an acrylic bath, fill with water just over half way so the silicone gets to a mid-way point when the bath is used. Otherwise, in a year or so when the silicone splits , you'll be doing it all over again.
