Yes, as you say it does default to PP adapter. But where does that leave me. Is there anything I should reset on the laptop to give it a IP address. The main router has allocated it an address which I can see in the DHCP table. But this address does not appear in the laptop itself.

I think I have identified the problem. I have been using a water based primer on top of the knotting solution (Blanchards). I have now rubbed it down and used a oil based primer. This seems to have done the job. :D

No it is not the bleeding from the knots that is coming through. We have applied knotting solution to prevent that. It seems that the primer has not taken properly where the knotting solution is. We will try one or two of the ideas offered. Thanks

No it is not actually pebbles. What I mean by pebble dashing is a layer of rendering on the wall with small stones of varying sizes spead haphazardly around. I was thinking of pva to seal the stones in.
