Joining new extension wall to existing wall

I have bought wall starter kits to tie my extension walls onto the corner of our existing house but i have 2 questions. 1. Should i cut away a section of wall to tie the inside skin to the old inside skin prior to cutting away the wall much later when i am water tight. 2. how should the 2...

how to set out brick work around new lintel

I am about to start the brickwork for our extension and am doing some setting out drawings. All the masonary will be either rendered or cedar clad so i am not worried about brick patterns for aesthetics. I have seen illustrations of how not to set the brick work out for supporting lintels...

    correcting unlevel footings

I had my footings poured on saturday and i made a bit of a school boy error. The pegs that i hammered in to guage by levels obviously werent hammered in enought as when the concrete was poured in, they were knocked over resulting in only one level peg left to check against. After the rains...

rain forcast when casting my trench footing ok?

Ok, thanks. Just read a lot on line about rain damaging the top surface and repairs/ grinding off needed, increased water content weakening concrete (which I struggle to believe as it will set under water) and even comments that a decent concrete company wouldn't deliver when raining. Thought...

heat loss calcs and maximum allowed area of glass

I understand that the area of glass of an extension can be no more than 25% of the new floor area, however you can offset the area off window removed from the original building by the creation of the extension. Our extension (internally)will be 28.14 sqm the proposed amount of glazing is...
