Vaillant weather compensating controls set up

My new system boiler is all up and running and working but i am not sure that it is working to its full potential. I have installed a Vaillant ecotec plus system boiler with the additional VRC430 controls and VR65 control centre.

My question is, when setting up the controls you are asked whether the heating circuit is direct or inactive. The boiler pipes water directly around the radiators unlike the hot water which is produced via an indirect cylinder. I assume therefore that i choose diret here which i have done. Is this correct or have i misinterpreted this?

The cylinder storage options are then active or inactive. From my earlier theory above that inactive means indirect, i have assuemed that i need to choose inactive. Is this correct or have i misinterpreted this?

If i have got this correct then i am all set up correctly.

Also does the external temperature sensor require calibrating in some way? The other morning, it was reading 9degc outside yet my car suggested it was 1degC. There was frost on the car so i thinks it was near 1deg than 9. How do it do this?

Even my plumber was not sure of these things. I have not pushed him to solve these problems as he is a mate who did the install cheaply so i am trying to solve this.

Has he completed the Benchmark Certificate and notified Building Control?

If you had engaged Kevin then he would have installed it properly and taught you how to use the controls!

He isnt familiar with the weather compensating controls and works closely with someone who usually would deal with this. And since he was doing me a favour with my boiler i havent paid for his partner to deal with this part.

It is on the north east facing elevation fitted below the soffit of our bungalow. Instructions suggest higher up but I don't have much choice. There are no vents or anything in the vicinity. The boiler is on the other side of the house about 15m cable run away

You can use the temperature correction facility to adjust the outdoor temperature but I don't think it should be that much out! Sometimes it takes a few seconds to update if the display is off but mine is a wireless version, when I first got it, it seemed to take a while to 'acclimatise' if that's the correct word but it's okay now.

Heating - direct

Cylinder - active. You should have a dry pocket sensor to detect the cylinder temperature, what cylinder do you have?

The cylinder is a range tribune. It is a twin coil for connection of solar should i get around to it, but at the moment i am only using one coil.

Any idea on how to correct the temperature? i guess it would be the same with the wireless version.

You can use the VR10 sensor with the Range tribune in a dry pocket.... but you must also have the motorised valve connected to the overheat stat combo in the Range.

I don't know why you fitted the VRC430, the VRC470 is much easier to use and replaced the VRC430 in Dec 2011.
