    new pond, help/advice/guidance

Yeah, the drawings were done in sketchup. was drawing up the house extension plans but got carried away with the less important stuff. Was planning a depth of 4 foot or 1.2m to the top pond. The second pond will be about 2 foot deep with continuous slab cast for both ponds at the same time so...

    new pond, help/advice/guidance

Not sure why this has turned into an arguement but thank you geometer for your comments, not sure what problem magic bean has with you. Thanks jasonb for your useful input too. I am perfectly happy with the design the reason being a) the biggest reason, i come in and out of the front door...

    new pond, help/advice/guidance

29 Minutes Ago We are about to embark on some pretty major alterations to our bungalow to add a second story and modernise its appearce. With the facelift to the front elevation i intend to install a pond feature. The front garden slopes away from the house so i intend to build a series of...

Does my office require RCBO's (hence new DB)

Thanks for all this. the only alteration was to replace the lights fittins (wires above suspended ceiling) and instal a cleaners socker circuit (again wired aboe the ceiling and dropped down the walls in surface mounted mini trunking. There for i would conclude the board is not required. I...

Does my office require RCBO's (hence new DB)

My contractor as taken the liberty of installing it because i need it and charged me £650 for a 16 way board. So in your opinion this was not required? How much should the RCD option have cost as i may argue that i should only pay this amount. thanks

Does my office require RCBO's (hence new DB)

I have been told by my electrician that because RCBO's are not available for my existing distribution board in my office at work, i will need to install a new DB. Is this true? I have had conflicting advice. The only circuits are Lighting -run above suspended ceiling with switches chased into...

First ever stud wall does it look ok? Garage Conversion.

probably too late but you only need to stud every 600mm (e.g. 3 points across the board. The only reason to stud at 400 or 300 centres would be to make the wall more rigid eg if it is a bathroom wall that is going to be tiled. I spend £100k's on partitions every year and every wall has always...

    joingin new to old foundations.

Every house is different so shouldnt be a problem. Thats what confused me when my first pre planning application comments were that the designs did not match the surround character. Which house do they want it to look like then as i can the 8 closest houses vary from modern 5 beds, 1930's...

    joingin new to old foundations.

Thanks for that. Sounds like it is easy then. If i drill and insert the rebar, how do i fix the rebar in the hole? do i need to insert a resin? or drill it large enough for the concrete to flow into the hole around the rebar? Any idea on how far in the rebar should be inserted into both the...

IS there an external render i can go to floor level with

I have a 1930's bungalow that i want to modernise. Currently it is rendered on the top half and brick on the bottom half. The divide is marked by a line of bricks that are slightly proud of the rest. I would like to continue the render down to ground level, is there a render that allows me to...

    joingin new to old foundations.

We have just bought a 1930's bungalow which we are planning to do a lot of works to. The corner of our lounge has a small chunk taken out of it where the front and side walls are chamfered and it annoys the hell out of me as it unbalances the room. I would like to knock this corner down and...

how to build a new roof over the existing

I know it obviously best to replace the roof as quickly as possible. I put a complete new roof on my last place and it probably took a couple of months to get it finished in the mean time the first floor was completley open to the elements bar some tarps that just got shredded in the winds. We...

how to build a new roof over the existing

I plan on extending my bungalow by changing the two hipped ends into gable ends. To do this the ridge beam obviously needs to be extened quite considerably. I had planned to build the gable end up (block work) and then install a new steel the full lenght of the house, nearly 15metres. I had...

    attractive flat/shallow roofing options

I know i will need the saps done but the existing house is so badly insulated i dont think i will have an issue upgrading the performance of the rest of the house to offset the glazing. eg ther is no roof insulationa the moment and the boiler must be 30 years old by the looks of it. I was...
