    DESPERATE HELP NEEDED!

Your pics: You should not turn the power back on when bare wires are poking out of your ceiling - it is highly dangerous as you may forget that the circuit is live when returning to it, or someone else may come into contact with them. Always terminate unused wires as soon as you finish...

WICKES FROST PROOFER AND RAPID HARDENER

I'm not sure if it applies to all embedded metals - if the ties are stainless then it might not affect them. Unless you have any calcium chloride to hand to test if they corrode then only the manufacturer of the wall ties can tell you that. You could probably mix some sodium chloride with...

WICKES FROST PROOFER AND RAPID HARDENER

The Wickes admixture is one of a whole bunch of similar products which basically just replace some of the water with some clever chemical witchcraftery which increases the speed of the cement reaction so most of the water will have gone by the time night falls . That reduces the chance of it...

Water and Drainage search - surface into foul waste

Thank you for the reply. I will contact them again and this time press for why they believe the charge still applies. I'll ask them what the designation of the stream is too.

Water and Drainage search - surface into foul waste

Part of the runoff on my property goes to a soakaway with the rest going into a stream at the rear of the property. The stream is manmade to take water from some natural springs and to drain ground water from what used to be a flood plain 50 years ago before the river was moved through the...

    PU Foam and T&E cable

Can you wrap some plastic tightly around the cables where they pass through the hole, spray with water and then inject the foam around them? Something like pallet wrap would let you get a tight fit to the cables, but you'd need to test if it was a barrier to the chemicals in the PU foam.

    External wall cladding advice

Thanks noseall. By across the battens do you mean between the battens and the back of the cladding, thus leaving a small void between the membrane/cladding and the insulation? Do I still foil tape the insulation joints?

    External wall cladding advice

In a few months I am hoping to externally clad the rear and side walls my traditional-build brick bungalow with cedar to disguise the rather ugly mess left behind after three different extensions/alterations over the years. As I am not limited by space I want to use the opportunity to insulate...

    When to call an electrician?

She didn't need the heater - she could have just warmed up next to the socket. :)

    When to call an electrician?

In that case the only correct answer to your question "When to call an electrician?" for the person who did that is: "Before you think about plugging anything into a socket or operating a wall switch or pullcord switch". There needs to be a law that can be used to prevent certain people from...

    When to call an electrician?

Did a single heater damage all three sockets? If so, why would anyone plug it back into another socket after it melted the first one? And then to do it again a second time?

    When to call an electrician?

Shocking (I'm sorry - no pun was intended). Out of interest, what was plugged in to them?

electric floor heating compared to central heating radiator

Electric/dry UFH can work as a space/room heater but it will be expensive to run. It will be far more expensive that the cost of a designer radiator as bas has suggested. To pull it off you really need to design the entire subfloor around it so it is usually not very effective when...

    Waterproofing front doors

Do you have a copy of the incorrect instructions on their web site? If you can prove that they instructed you to varnish it then get them over to look at it and demand a replacement under the Sale of Goods Act. Their instructions comprised part of their supply to you. An external door should...

Neighbour growing ivy up my garage!

Double check that the wall is yours and not party, and if so then your first port of call will be to have a friendly chat with the neighbours to point out your concerns. It could be that they have no idea that it may cause problems and would not hesitate to remove it when made aware. Most...

    ESP Infinite or alternative?

Infinite prime products are made by Electronics Line 3000, an Israeli company, and were licensed to ESP as their UK distributor. I always thought that ESP was at least partly controlled by EL but I can't find any info to back that up when looking now, so it is possible that ESP lost or gave up...
