Thanks everyone. The bathroom is double skinned with cavity insulation and I'm happy with that. The issue is all coming from the cold tiny utility room off the back of it which is the single skin part. With it only being 83cm wide at the moment, i think 50mm on the walls is probably the limit of...
Hello all,
I am planning on taking my single skin utility room back to brick and then sticking 50mm of insulated plasterboard to it with foam adhesive. The room is currently off of my bathroom accessed by an internal door so is very very cold but damp free (only wetness on wall is from...
The question is around if there is an issue with drilling through the reinforced part of the window and if so how best to do it. I’m fully aware of how condensation works but for this situation, trickle vents will do the job I need them to. If you could answer the above then great.
Hi,
I have bought some trickle events to help with condensation. I’ve found out my window frame and sashes are reinforced. Am I ok to drill a series of holes through the reinforced part? I assume I need to get a special metal drill bit as mine don’t seem to be doing anything to go through it...
@tell80 thanks for the reply. The back wall is rendered and in good standing but will check for damp etc. What’s the need for backer board? Is that to avoid damp?
Hello,
I have a utility room that is wet from condensation, freezing cold to the touch and really drafty with 2 air bricks and a extractor fan! The plaster is all shot and it's only single brick all external walls with an internal door separating it from the bathroom. I assume this may have been...
Hello,
I have a chimney breast on the ground floor of my home. The breast and stack has been removed from the first floor upwards so this is the only piece remaining.
I want to angle grind a rectangle out of the breast at waist height and then put in a plywood box to create some sunken shelves...
Hi,
I'm hoping you could help me. I just removed some old polystyrene cornice from my wall/ceiling and can see the wall was only skimmed up to the cornice, not behind it. So now there is a dip where the cornice was with some glue marks. What's the best way to clean this up? EasiFill or standard...
Hi,
I have a uneven ceiling that i plan on battening with 50x25mm roofing battens and then screw 9.5mm plasterboard reading for skimming.
Can someone tell me if I need to batten along the length of each joist and pack out or is it better to fasten the battens perpendicular the joists and pack...
Why wouldnt it work?
Is it that the heater would overload the circuit? If that's the case, if i can find a mains cable and spur off that then ill be fine as those are already RCD protected?
Thanks for replying.
Hi,
I want to attach a heater on the external wall to provide some warmth when sat on a bench we have. We current have two outdoor lights that run off mains and turn on when motion is detected, about a meter from where i would like the heater to go.
My question is, can i take a spur off the...
the only thing under the rail is a fixing plate with three screws to attach the plate. Any tightening screw is probably hidden under gloss. Would it be on the underside of the handrail or on the post its attached to?
Thanks.
Hi all,
Really hoping you can help. I have a handrail that rattles on the post at the end. The post is sound but there is some side to side give from the handrail. I want to tighten it but the whole things has years and years of gloss painted all over it. Does anyone know where i should be...
