    "Gas" in Radiators

Not correct I’m afraid, gas as in gasoline is flammable, in fact it’s only the vapour off gasoline which is flammable, the liquid itself is not, hence why our gas needs to be treated with such care.

    "Gas" in Radiators

Not quite. ‘Gas’ in the form of stuff that provides fuel for your boiler is short for ‘gasoline’. ‘Gas’ in the chemical sense is an element that is not liquid or solid, like air. It’s also used to describe someone that won’t shut the hell up. Yes we’re getting pedantic but in a plumbing forum...

Potterton Powermax HE - Remote Programmer (Nest)

Are you sure the socket cable doesn’t run up the wall above the socket? Does it run down to the floor? Be careful :)

Potterton Powermax HE - Remote Programmer (Nest)

There will be no power in those wires using one of those screwdrivers as, like stem clearly showed above, what you have is a completely disconnected wire at both ends. You can only test continuity with a multimeter. Why are you suggesting to disconnect the live from the boiler? You should not...

Potterton Powermax HE - Remote Programmer (Nest)

I fitted my brothers Potterton 155x to Nest and did exactly what you said. The thermostat wires came into the airing cupboard next to the boiler, I simply disconnected these from the boiler and put them into the 12v supply in the heat link. There was an extra earth wire which I just isolated.

    Replacing old radiators

I replaced 10 old radiators last year. The way I approached it was, if the existing room was sufficiently heated, I replaced with the same size. Modern radiators have slightly better output for the same size vs older rads, so you’ll get slightly increased output anyway. For rooms which I felt...

Potterton Powermax HE - Remote Programmer (Nest)

To be fair to Nest, they do a pretty good job of trying to stop exactly the scenario you’ve found yourself in, see attached - I know when I installed it, it’s the first thing I saw.

    Sealing shower

Wow. ‘Some movement’ looks to be putting it lightly. Hard to say 100% from the photo but is the thick white bead to the left of the gap a thick bead of silicone already? If so that gap looks to be well over 7mm - far too big to properly seal with one full bead of silicone. Ideally you’d remove...

    Animal Deterrent

We had a huge problem when we moved to house a few years ago with a few cats coming into the front garden and sh*ting in the same place under the bay window. Two things worked for us 1) got rid of any exposed soil and replaced with decorative slate, and 2) got these: PestBye Ultrasonic...

    Removing concentric mixer valve

Sorted. Looks like it has been replaced before and they didn’t remove the old washer from the tap handle, so there Was two.

    Removing concentric mixer valve

Ok got it all of and I think I’ve found the cause of the leak, changed one of the o-rings over. Made school boy error though, did not take a pic of the setup before I dissembled the valve and now cannot work out where that washer on the left goes (see attached). Again, pictures from website...

Apologies, not sure where it went, it’s there now.

    Removing concentric mixer valve

i have a slow leak on my shower / I want to remove the valve to see if I can repair it, or failing this replace it. Can someone tell me how to remove this valve correctly please. Looks like there are 3 possible things to turn and not sure which one to do first. Photo is attached of the valve...

    New doors

Yes I agree it’s horses for courses but even the cheapest veneered doors are around the £100 mark - I just can’t fathom why you’d paint them. At least with the egg box doors they are designed to be painted, and have a mock wood effect etched into them, with a veneered door you’ll end up with a...

    New doors

Can’t believe people pay for oak veneer doors to paint them. Apply a good danish oil and this will look far better than white paint. If you’re going to paint doors go for the cheaper egg box things, no point spending money solid doors. Best thing I ever did was pay for good doors and not...

    Boilermate ii gledhill boiler buzzing

Fair shout, though generally people find it difficult to estimate total volume as it’s hard to calculate radiator capacity on top of thermal store. Won’t go far wrong with 2 litres of ‘normal’ concentrate like Sentinel.

    Boilermate ii gledhill boiler buzzing

Soft or hard water is largely irrelevant, water corrodes when it has oxygen in it, which the BM’s certainly will have. I had a drain valve on a radiator which I let out a few litres and then topped the header tank with inhibitor. There is a drain valve on tank itself but use with caution as it...

Don’t dispute it - how many inhibited them though? o_O

    Boilermate ii gledhill boiler buzzing

Waste of time getting these serviced - as a few others have said and as I found out lots of engineers either know nothing about them or don’t want to touch them, so I agree that calling people out is likely to cost you more as you might end up with 3 call outs before you find someone who knows...
