Nothing I ask seems to elicit any replies any more. Have I broken some cardinal rule or summat? I'm happy to be told.

Just to clear this up - Dulux Rich Matt on skimmed walls

First off apologies for bring this up again and please feel free to insult me (a little) if you reply to this thread. I've got a room which about 10 days ago was skimmed. It's pretty much dry - even pink look to walls. However, I'll be leaving it a few more days to be sure. I'd bought...

    Switch/socket suppliers - London North(ish)

Anybody know anywhere with a good range of sockets/switches in London, preferably North of the river? Looking at stuff online is proving fruitless ... Many thanks.

Volex switches and sockets - waste of time?

Thanks. A check on a recent socket shows they have moved away from brass ... I in fact fitted Crabtree screwless sockets/switches all over my previous house and it may be the design/clip on plates but I found them a bit lacking. Don't know about safety. Will explore MK when I can find...

    Touch dimmer for LV circuit

I've got three sets of lights in my living/dining room. 1) 6 x 50W LV Halogen 2) 4 x 50W LV Halogen 3) 1 x normal mains wall light I've currently got a normal 3G Dimmer switch on these but I'd like to replace it with a 3G touch dimmer - that can be controlled by remote. The...

Volex switches and sockets - waste of time?

There is someone with almost permanently sticky fingers but she won't be up at the light switches for a few years...

Volex switches and sockets - waste of time?

Thanks again. Tried looking on mk's site but all pictures are low-res - and impossible to judge. Now thinking that I should be looking broader - for something not necessarily super-highend but perhaps a little more original. Current choice was chrome with black inserts but I'm sure there...

Volex switches and sockets - waste of time?

lol Thanks a lot! Will have a look about. Any good suppliers recommended? Ideally want to order online... (Priesthood is fine - in fact it must be over a year since I registered the name since my 'qualification' is coming up for her first birthday. Don't let anyone kid you, though. The...

Volex switches and sockets - waste of time?

Just about to replace various in my house and was looking at these in the Screwfix catalogue ... Ordered a couple for inspection and they look fine. Now I'm reading terrible things about these people - mainly wrt consumer units. Do they make terrible switches and sockets too? Should I be...

12V (low voltage) lighting problem - one light goes off!

You're on! But could we go with something other than a Kit-Kat? I try to avoid Nestle for reasons that are inappropriate to explain here(!) Thanks for this, though. It does seem an incredibly plausible explanation. I'm going to get some asap.

12V (low voltage) lighting problem - one light goes off!

They have one each. I've yanked out the transformers on the misbehaving light and can't see anything obviously dodgy. But in the light I will remove cables and reexpose wire from the sheath to make sure it's not this. In the meantime, I've dropped the bulb from 50W to 35W as its intermittent...

Thanks. It actually a party wall. Do people put air bricks in party walls?

12V (low voltage) lighting problem - one light goes off!

Yes, always on at the start. This makes sense. Does it mean that if I lowered the wattage - currently 50W - down to 35W bulbs - it might help? Thanks for a prompt reply!

12V (low voltage) lighting problem - one light goes off!

I have two low voltage lights in one of the rooms in my house. After a short period of time on, one of the lights (the same one each time) switches off. Sometimes it comes back on again a while later, sometimes not. It's almost as if it's wired into a swtich in someone else's house. It's not...

Nasty smell when gas fire on: please read - very odd!

Thanks for these comments. There is no air-brick; so that might be tricky. Essentially the whiff is coming up through the floorboards. As for the air current explanation, that does sound sensible. So now I'm wondering how long a small animal takes to decompose vs taking up floorboards. Any...
