Composite door, weatherstrip and frame rotting

Yes, that sounds the best plan. I'll do it this way, treating the wood first. I'll post up the results, and then hope for the best. Thank you all for your help, I now know what to do!

Composite door, weatherstrip and frame rotting

OK, although that isn't what I wanted to hear I definitely appreciate your advice. The cost of a new door being out of the question I've got no choice but to either leave it and save up, or spent perhaps £30 and give it a go. It's only that outer skin thats rotted, the inner wood and sides are...

Composite door, weatherstrip and frame rotting

What would be best to use, hardboard or ply? Under the outer skin it's not rotten, it's probably starting but the wood isn't soft. Seems a good plan to repair the door.

Composite door, weatherstrip and frame rotting

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't know for sure what a composite door was, this one looked different to older wooden doors I've had before and thought it might be one. As you say its all wood. I'm going to repair it as I can't afford a new door and it's only the bottom that's affected. It...

Composite door, weatherstrip and frame rotting

Thanks for your reply. The original weatherstrip was wood. Here are some more photos, do they help understand the type of door?

Composite door, weatherstrip and frame rotting

The composite back door on our 1997 built house is rotting at the bottom. The weather strip rotted first and was replaced about 5 years ago. The door frame is also rotting at the bottom as can be see in the photos. Can you tell from the photos what kind of wood rot this is? What is the best...

What is this pushing down through ceiling?

Point taken, though if fungi where would the spores have come from? If some kind of moth, wasp or whatever, it could fly or crawl in, a fungi would have to have dropped the spores there. There was leak there many years ago about 20 or 30 probably, the ceiling sagged as a result and they...

What is this pushing down through ceiling?

Thanks for all the ideas, fungi is a possibility. I should have kept the ones I took off and examined more closely, they seemed more like empty 'cocoons' or 'pupa', like thin dry paper. Though just as likely a dried fungi of some kind. It wasn't really clear at first they were coming...

What is this pushing down through ceiling?

The bathroom is above, though she had it renewed and level access shower fitted only in December, the new flooring is a one piece 'rubber' type, that goes up the wall a couple of inches all round. I'd be surprised if was leaking, and the ceiling below is dry, no sign of damp. It does seem...

What is this pushing down through ceiling?

My mother has these cocoon like growths pushing their way through the plasterboard ceiling. They are making a hole and 'growing' down through it. Two were noticed a few weeks ago about a inch and a half long, I pulled them off and they didn't seem to have any substance to them, I thought they...

Defective new taps, or pressure too high?

Yes, you are right, faulty cartridge. Thanks for the suggestion. Swapping hot and cold over, and the cold tap position still doesn't hold when fed low pressure, yet the high holds on the tap hot position. So not down to pressure, the cold tap position fails whatever the supply, indeed a...

Defective new taps, or pressure too high?

They only give a minimum of 0.5bar, and recommend 1bar, but don't give a maximum. Location is the east midlands, never had problems with the water pressure being high.

Defective new taps, or pressure too high?

I've just fitted a new ceramic mono mixer basin tap in the bathroom. The cold supply is mains fed, and tap slowly dripped when fully off. When I isolated the cold supply the drip stopped, so the tank fed hot water at low pressure wasn't the cause, it's the mains pressure cold that is doing...

    Honeywell V4073 midpoint valve

Its my understanding that for HW, (either HW stat condition), the valve is at B. It's only A+B or A that the motor is driven. B is the rest position, the motor is not powered and pulled back to that position by the spring. I just had a look at the valve, put HW ON and the valve is at rest in...

    Honeywell V4073 midpoint valve

This midpoint valve was making a fairly load clicking/ticking noise whenever the central heating was used and continued even when the CH was later turned off. It seemed likely the motor wearing out, as the noise was becoming more obvious, so I got a replacement head. I fitted it and was testing...

    Strip and restain wooden floor

Good point, I didn't think it might be a veneer. Thanks I'll do as you say. I don't want to use a floor sander, as I haven't used one before and don't want to practice on this with it being a small area and maybe not very forgiving of any cack handedness. Probably they are more suited to...
