Ideal Logic Plus Combination Boiler - is it any good?

Ideal are giving a 5 year warranty on the "Logic Plus Combination Boiler" range. I see the older Ideal boilers were not thought of very highly, but haven't seen any comments at all about this one. Is it any good do you reckon?

Boiler replacement advice for my 85 year old mum!

The rads have been upgraded from the original singles, probably about 20 years ago, and on my suggestion had TRVs and a flush and inhibitor done about 7 years ago. So I'm thinking they should be OK after a good flush this time around, does that seem reasonable? I've looked around here and see...

Boiler replacement advice for my 85 year old mum!

It's really difficult to know how to get the right deal. I'm getting the message loud and clear to avoid BG, hopefully a local independent will be found.

Boiler replacement advice for my 85 year old mum!

Thank you. It's probably what I was expecting. So is there any good way to get a trustworthy local independent installer who will do a 'proper' job. Are there any subscribers to this forum in the Nottingham area? We don't know anyone who has recently had any heating work done who would...

Boiler replacement advice for my 85 year old mum!

The time has come to replace her old boiler, it's at least 45 years old (sorry don't know the make just now), and the system struggles to keep her 3 bedroomed detached house warm. I suspect a good clean out may do a lot of good, but she is determined to have it replaced with a condensing combi...

PLEASE HELP - Memory Update for a Dell Dimension 1100

Assuming you have the other spec of the memory correct, there are low and high density chip options, you need low density. Not all Ebay sellers give the chip density, but if you find one that states low density then it will be compatible (provided you've the other spec right of course).

Removing old paint from door frame sealing strip

Had a quick go and it is coming off...why can't I think of the obvious, thanks! I'd like to do that, but suspect I'll use masking tape, thanks for letting me know it can be done.

Removing old paint from door frame sealing strip

Do you know if its easy to remove and replace then? From what I can tell it seems to well secured, in some hidden way in the frame (wooden). I'm reluctant to prise a bit away in case I can't get in back in again. Thanks for the suggestion, its an option if I work out how to fit it.

Converting handle operated toilet to a button one.

So they don't like them! I'm happy so far, but it's only been in use two days. I know the syphon is really the best design, cannot leak water like the drop valve or flapper. If the one I've got fails then I'll just fit the duoflush syphon and put it down to experience. Good luck!

Converting handle operated toilet to a button one.

Yes I bought the one from Toolstation. It comes with the button and an adapter suitable for two sizes of 'handle hole', front handle here too and it fitted fine. There are actually 3 lengths of cable that connect the button to the valve, though only the medium is supplied, if you need longer or...

Converting handle operated toilet to a button one.

I went thorough the same process just this week, and from the bit of research I did it seems there are three types of valve that can used to flush, the syphon, the drop valve and the flapper. The type you've listed is a flapper, and from what I can tell it flushes for as long as you the...

Removing old paint from door frame sealing strip

Our exterior door frames have a built in rubber type sealing strip. The previous owner was careless and splashed paint on it, white paint on black looks quite messy. Do you know if there's anything I can use on this type of material, Nitromors says it's not for use on rubber, vinyl, plastics...

New life for weathered brass fittings?

The bit I tested with Brasso wadding came up a treat, so would agree with you, though I need to get some paint stripper to get the old lacquer off before continuing. I also soaked part of the handle in white vinegar as a test and it did seem to clean up the brass which had had the lacquer...

    Fitting a dual flush system

As we're on a water meter it's been on my mind for a while to convert the toilets to dual flush. A bit of research reveals two options, either a syphon or drop valve. So I've found these two items Duoflush or Drop Valve, and wondered if the experts have any advice. The Duoflush is more...

New life for weathered brass fittings?

I didn't see that, but a bit of googling suggests soaking or rubbing with a mixture of white vinegar, salt and lemon juice or tomato/Worcester sauce or coca cola. I see the getting the old lacquer off as the worst bit, then any number of options to polish up to a clean shine before spraying...

New life for weathered brass fittings?

Thank you both very much for the tips, much appreciated. I tried a test patch, just rubbed a bit down with Brasso to see how it went, looking good. Job will get done now, thanks again.

New life for weathered brass fittings?

I see! Thank you, that's a much better approach and one that I hadn't considered. I'll try that. As for the lacquer, would this be...
