    Replace slats on garden bench

If they're straight forward flat slats shouldn't be a problem. you will need to use the fence guide for the circular saw, if you haven't got that use a straight edge in order to get a straight cut. :)

    newbie quote question

As said about a days work, though there is quite a bit involved. Sounds a silly question but would you want the splashbacks secured to the wall during the worktop fitting, therefore assuming all electric cabling is in situ to pull through splashback? In London £250 for labour, try a kitchen...

    Planer thicknesser

Thanks oilman I'm narrowing down the search to the Record, SIP and Elektras, all around £500. They all seem capable machines....

    Planer thicknesser

Hi I want to buy a planer thicknesser and was wondering if anyone had any views or advise about them and also any recommendations. It will be for workshop use only and used mainly for my own private projects so doesn't really need to be trade performance. Saying that I've got a budget of...

    Garage base

Hi Wonder if anyone can give me some advice - I want to build a timber framed garage 5.6x5.6m with trussed pitched roof, fully tiled with Marley Internit slates. There will be 2 courses of concrete block to sole plate then timber frame erected from that. The question I have is would it be ok...

    Timber garage

I 'd like to build a timber framed double garage with an exterior shiplap finish. Could anyone give me an idea if this would be more expensive than building a brick built one. I'm more interested in the material costs as I'm hoping to call in favours from so called mates.... Thanks for your help

    Water based gloss paint.

After reading loads of advise on this forum I went for Dulux Aquatec water based gloss. Used with Purdeys synthetic brushes and was well impressed with the product. Never used it before. The drying time was excellent though all woodwork needed 2 coats and a thorough rub down between. I cant...

    Macerator or ugly pipe run?

If this is to be the only bathroom upstairs I wouldn't go for the macerator option. The soil pipe seems more hassle but in the long run the 4" soil pipe will be the best option.

Lights for under kitchen base units

You can fix lighting into recess cut out of plinth, or secure under base of floor units. They look very effective either way.

Lights for under kitchen base units

Do you mean kickboard/plinth, between floor and bottom of base unit, these obscure the legs, or will there be exposed legs, ie no kickboard.

    Kitchen Cornice

A joiners shop might be able to match the profile, the colour match is a bit more tricky. As has been said- continue up to the wall and fix an infill between the unit and wall. Good luck :)

Reducing Height of Small Concrete Area

For the relatively small area you have described a concrete planer should be sufficient. I used one for a similar job and was surprised at how well it 'planed'. :)

laminate flooring - which way to start boards in en-suite

Removing the pan and pedestal gives the best 'clean' finish. On a couple of occassions we've had to leave them in situ due to the complex nature of previous fitting/boxing etc. You can cut round the bases but the scribing has to be very accurate to ensure a correct profile, its also time...

    Replacing 1920's skirting board

Travis Perkins can normally machine most profiles if you have a sample. I've used them a couple of times, not the cheapest I'm sure, but they did a good job-the profile match was spot on.

    Organising Tools on Site

I too suffered from the same problems, where is that...........?etc. Now I have a number of different tool boxes carrying, electrics, plumbing and plastering bits and bobs. Problem is the woodworking power tools- they take up the rest of the van space. Just found a spirit level behind a...

Anyone used these "Wall in a box" kits?

I can only comment on the frames we used, can't for the life of me remember who the manufacturer was. I can't see any reason why you couldn't fix the boards either side of the frame, but I'm no expert with metal frames. Probably why I stick to wood :)

    stain on oak floor

I had this happen to me only last week. But this was a small drop of plaster that landed on oak kitchen worktop. As soon as I wiped it of the stain was there. I was very worried because I was unsure how deep into the wood it would go and also if it could be removed. Luckily it came out with some...

Anyone used these "Wall in a box" kits?

You have to buy 2 lots, an inner and outer facing frame, hence the cost implications. As was said earlier timber makes more sense.
