Bit late for that. They have opened it and said that it failed due to user error - ie that some rubbish was in the mechanism and it must've been his fault. TBH it's hard to imagine how a user could be at fault with an electric plane - it's expected to be used in an environment full of dust...

To answer your question Cgas, you shouldn't strip it before punching it down. if you leave the insulation on it makes a nice gas tight connection that stops it corroding in the future.
