    thanks for all your quick replies. There is no pull cord in the bathroom itself, just a switch outside the bathroom (one like a cooker switch to cut both neutral and live i think!!!!?)and it was this that is getting hot. thanks again Trevor

    Apologies it should indeed say lighting circuit. I have been extending the ring main recently and seem to have that word etched in my mind. I wasn't sure about the FCU but thought i could use it to connect the cable from the transformer to but i suppose i could just use a normal surface...
