Practical Advice Self Levelling Up to 55mm

No good options by sound of it. Digging out will no doubt involve BC, plans and months of waiting. Quick fix isn't ideal long term and by sounds of it mixing in a bucket isn't an option, so will need to hire mixer for a screed up to SLC.

Practical Advice Self Levelling Up to 55mm

Carpet down so no pics of entire floor, pic attached was small leak had to fix, pinhole in water pipe under floor. Gives idea of construction, looks like thin screed, concrete and what could be described as hardcore (looks like rubble), there was some sort of dpc layer too. Definitely wasn't...

Practical Advice Self Levelling Up to 55mm

Not suspended timber, old solid floor, guessing just poorly prepped sub base caused drop in centre

Practical Advice Self Levelling Up to 55mm

Hi All, Looking some practical advice on how to layer up SLC up to 55mm. Floor goes down in the middle to lowest point of 55mm, and gradually then rises to edges where i'll need to feather edge it or take it to 1mm max. I was thinking I need to use two different SLCs, one of the reinforced...

    Floor Repair - Best Approach?

Sorry to round back on this but just about to buy materials. Definitely concrete i'm using and not a mortar mix - so cement, sand and stone aggregate mix? Lot of the pre-mixed stuff for floor repair looks like just a mortar mix so will have to mix up some concrete myself if needed Thanks

    Floor Repair - Best Approach?

Thanks noseall - sounds like a plan. Wasn't expecting the sand but makes sense - sharp sand? Lap the polythene up sides a bit and concrete to level, planning to slc whole floor once I patch this bit.

    Floor Repair - Best Approach?

Hi all, Have to repair floor on pic attached, old solid floor. What's best approach to this, mix up some mortar and patch it in? Worried about mortar around copper pipes, or do I compact loose stone around them and mortar on top? Any advice appreciated! Thanks

    Concealed Mixer Head Replaceable?

Hi all, Retiling a shower and wondering if I can replace shower head (and pipe) on pic attached. It comes out and down well under head height for me. Do these screw off right back to the wall? Don't want to try in case they don't. Would this be a right pain to remove completely? Assume you take...

Levelling a Floor - 2 different finished floor levels at joining doorways

Thanks. Confusing myself at this stage with the different levels! Hallway is defo 20mm higher than kitchen though, and about 6 metres between each door. Taking 20mm off near hallway doesn't sound like an option, think i'd be nearly into sub base (it's a thin old screed on top). Screeding sounds...

Levelling a Floor - 2 different finished floor levels at joining doorways

Finally getting around to levelling our dining room floor which I thought some self levelling would sort. Think i'm just on the cusp of what self levelling can handle (50mm). In process of establishing finished floor levels to level to, i've found that the dining room joins into two other areas...

    Renovation of a Thermal Element

Hi All, Hoping someone can help me make sense of guidance re renovation of a thermal element, specifically replacing a timber suspended floor. If you replace all the joists, I'm reading it that you have to meet the u-values of say a new build as opposed to renovation u-values (0.22 versus...

Replace Suspended Timber Floor with Concrete or Vica Versa?

Thanks - think the upheaval point is probably the main one - getting all the sand binding, aggregate and concrete in sounds like a move out of the house for 3/4 weeks job!

Replace Suspended Timber Floor with Concrete or Vica Versa?

Void at shallowest is ~400mm, going down to ~500 at rear of house. Sunk versus badly poured - i'm not sure to be honest. Looks like potentially there was a wall in the room at one stage which was taken down and then something was done with the flooring, which leads me to believe it was just...

Replace Suspended Timber Floor with Concrete or Vica Versa?

Hi there, Any advice would be appreciated on following topic. Live in a 1965 bungalow that has mix of flooring as follows: 3 bedrooms and 1 living room suspended timber floors, large main hallway victorian tiled and believe underneath no dpc/insulation etc just thin concrete layer at top and...

    Bypassing Joist

Thanks all - think the only real solution is two 24mm holes in the centre of the joist. Plumber not so keen to do that though, will need bit of convincing!

    Bypassing Joist

Joist is 97mm, so notch would only be 12mm. I had thought about notching that much out of joist and 10mm out of underside of chipboard floor - 10mm channel where pipe would be sitting proud. Anywhere along the length of the joist i'd still need to go under and back up, worried about airlocks...

    Bypassing Joist

Hi all, Looking for some suggestions about how I get 22mm copper pipes around/through a joist (97mm). Notching on top isn't an option as notch would be too deep. I think I can go through middle via drilling holes but plumber is talking about not having enough space to get joins in and solder...

No Joist End - How do I Support Floor?

Thanks tony1851, that was the solution in my head, just wondered if BC would be happy with it i.e. it's something commonly done. Not sure if small bit of timber along the wall becomes a trimmed joist and you need additional support etc like trimmer joists for openings. Catlad - not quite sure I...

No Joist End - How do I Support Floor?

Anything I can do with the joists e.g. nogging across the joists and then run a short piece from wall plate to nogging or would that be classed as a trimmed joist?

No Joist End - How do I Support Floor?

Hi All, Putting in new joists (suspended timber ground floor) and with combination of 400/450 centres have managed to keep it all relatively uniform. However there is a return no joist lands on and therefore will be no support for the floor (pic attached). What's the solution to this to get...
