    Making Safe or Taking Over?

Evening folks, In the middle of doing a few jobs on an older domestic install, I've noticed the shower circuit (which I wasn't originally going to work on) has a separate c.u. which is in an unsafe state and no local isolation (only the c.u. itself which is in the basement). I've told the...

    Coax/ Cat5e

Hello everyone, Whilst I've got the boards up in most rooms in my house over the next few days, I was thinking of running 2 coax (ct100) and 2 cat5e cables to a point in each room as I may not get another chance. Would you say this is enough/ too much etc.? Cheers

    Approved Voltage Indicator ?

[/url] Interesting to see that it's "fully GS38 compliant", according to the link. Last year my assesor for my 2391 exam wouldn't allow me to use mine as, he claimed, they are not gs38 compliant because the probes are not fused. If memory serves me right my NAPIT assesor seemed to agree that...

    re-wiring a shower

As BAS says, you can't just replace a cable and leave any fault in situ. It's a false (and dangerous) economy. What size is the cable?

    Garage wiring plan

If the supply runs externally it should be in steel wire armoured cable, not t&e.

    Reference Method?

    Reference Method?

Good afternoon BAS. Yes I'd checked the 17th out of interest earlier; but the Easycert software I use only runs to the 16th at the moment until the updates come through. In the 17th I think it will be Method 72 or 73 as it's armoured (70 is unarmoured). Regards, Ants

Do I need this upgraded first??

I bow to your greater knowledge on this one Roo and personally I do fit isolators but what do you do if you get to customers house to reconnect the supply or change meter etc. and the sparks has fit a shiny new CU and tails (or even just tails, as is the case here) but no isolator and doesn't...

Do I need this upgraded first??

Bigger and better than me will be along to give advice soon but IMHO: -I'd like confirmation that the supply neutral is not fused but I don't think it will be. (The tails (16.0mm?) look fairly recent, as do the seals, so I'd hope the neutral fuse had been replaced with a permanent connection)...

    Reference Method?

SWA buried underground in garden going through pvc piping for future removal if needed. What reference would you say? Is the piping treated as conduit and therefore ref.meth. 3 (Installation Method 7)? Regards, Anthony

    Main Switch Lock Out Device

Thanks Itheb, Yes I have something similar but I find there is still some movement on the main switch (ok on the mcb though) and was wondering if I needed a pin-out style one.

    Main Switch Lock Out Device

Evening folks, What's the best lock-out device for a Wylex DP Main Switch? I've been looking on here for one: http://www.reecesafety.co.uk/Circuit%20breaker%20lockouts.htm and here http://www.thefusecompany.co.uk/ I use one of the 'Toggle Locks' for mcbs but it isn't great on the main...

    Static Caravan Installation

Yes, sorry my mistake. I believe the caravan supply is TT'd from the main dis board. I'm not actually on the job yet, was just taking a look as I may well be soon and wanted to familiarise myself with the set up. The other info is very useful, thanks. Regards, Ants

    Static Caravan Installation

Worked on a static caravan site for the first time today and not sure about some of the installation methods used. The TNCS supply to the outdoor joint boxes seems fine: 16.0mm SWA into the meter and henley block, then through a 80A mcb and a 30mA rcd. The things that I question are the cable...

    16mm 2core and earth

Does this include a P.I.R. and the remedy of any findings? How can he know the maximum work he has to do when he gave you the maximum charge?

    C.U./ Pipes Proximity

Hello folks, Both in the Regs (528-02-02) and OSG (p.55) we're warned about installations run or fixed alongside hot pipes but they give no safe distances for C.U.s, for example. The C.U. in my house is approx 100mm from a vertical hot water pipe. Is this too close? What would be the minimum...

Supply and Fault Questions (w. pics)

I've a few questions about the supply characteristics of a job I went out to last week, if anyone fancies commenting. 1. Does anybody know why a supply with a PME notice on it, appears to be fixed up as a TNS system? and 2. There's two incomers. Will one be going to feed next door...
