    foundation trench... height of concrete....Photo's

Hi, I've decided to go for a partial fill cavity. Prescot wants 50mm of insulation and I want nice round figures to work to, so I've gone for a 50mm residual cavity, that means obviously a 100mm cavity. Therefore it's a 300mm thick wall. Footings are required to be minimum 150mm each side of...

    the price is right ?

me too. Alright for DIA.......he's probably got a loyal customer base and new customers that have his company's name (not 3) via a recomendation. I try only to visit jobs were I haven't been recommended if something is leaking, not running or needed urgently

    4ft Bank

this would be a retaining wall. a wall should not be over (I think) 5m long without a movement joint in it. If the height of the retained ground is greater than 1m then the wall will have to be stronger than a simple cavity wall. It should probably be a 9 inch solid brick wall with piers...

    foundation trench... height of concrete....Photo's

I bought some 12mm rebar and cut it up into 600mm lengths. The depth of the concrete is 300mm. I drove in the rebar stakes about 1m apart using a level and it seems to have done the job. I suppose now a host of builders will come forward to tell me why having rebar embedded in your foundation...

    Toliet prob

Hi ben, It sounds like the flush mechanism is not a syphon but a flapper valve. The volume of the flush on these can be adjusted by rotating the big rubber disc (plug) part of the flapper. If you were too look at the rubber flapper (plug thingy) in your hand closely you would find a very...

    plastering advice

Hi, I don't consider myself a plasterer. The only advice I can give is that in the shower area, behind tiles, it might be better to use cement board or synthetic building board (e.g. wedi building board).

    foundation trench... height of concrete....Photo's

thanks for the responses. I like the rebar idea, spraying the walls of the trench sounds like a good fail-safe too, I could put some batten at the height I want and spray under it so the concrete just covers it. Good call KEV, but after busting my balls with a pic-axe and a barrow for the...

    Kitchen Waste dilemma

Are you the lease holder for the property, do you have access to any deeds. The underground drains may not be your property, but the responsibility of the leaseholder ? If the pipes under your flat are sound then maybe the problem is the responsibility of your neighbour. Like Chris_R has...

removing a radiator - how do i shut the valve

Hi all, I don't have much to do with plastic pipe, however looking at the pic of your green valve, it looks almost like the compression joint at the inlet of the valve is engaging only the metal insert at the end of the plastic flow pipe, and not the plastic pipe ? Am I missing something...

Cautionary tail : Internal overflows & close coupled wc

    Soil pipe connection

Check the spigot on the wc is reasonably round. If there is a "flat" on the spigot then the push-on will not form a seal. Make sure the height of the WC spigot is not below the tee into the stack, if this is the case water will not run away properly and will pool in the pipe, this still...
