    Is mdpe gnawable?

Where the mains MDPE comes up into the house under floorboards is it at risk to vermin taking chunks out of it like hep and jg is?

    mdpe potable

Hi, I've heard that there is MDPE suitable for drinking water and some which isn't. Is the stuff you get from drain centre potable and does it need flushed before you use it? Thanks.

    MDPE to HEP20

Got it :-) suppose I might as well use the mdpe for the 2m under floor boards. I think it's not designed for that but it will be ducted and insulated.

    MDPE to HEP20

Ok cheers.. Good idea re: the short bit of copper before the stop, I plan to do that between the stop and the drain too. Once the mdpe is in the house I need to send it along under the floor boards a couple of metres before surfacing. I assume you are suggesting I cut it and joint rather...

    MDPE to HEP20

Thanks John, Yeah they are coming in a couple of weeks to do their side of things. Just realised I might as well stick with the mdpe until the stop tap (with ducting and insulation). Then 15mm copper until the existing 15mm hep20. Is a standard compression 25 - 15mm stop tap the way to...

    MDPE to HEP20

For a lead water mains replacement - I'm planning on going from MDPE 25mm to HEP20 (under floorboards then up) to a new stop tap, then drain cock then more HEP20 onto the existing plumbing, which is 15mm HEP20. Does it matter if the new HEP20 (either side of the new stop tap) is 15/22/25mm...

    plasterboard after damp?

Hi, I've had a kitchen wall damp problem. Partly bridged cavity/penetration which I've solved (thanks to help from the people here!). Also condensation which caused a line of black mould. The mould was on a brick wall hidden behind dot and dab plasterboard, behind units, sink and...

    Drive drainage

Hi. I've removed about 2 or 3 metres of concrete driveway at the side of my house. It was two layers about 2 inch thick each. The plan is to replace it with the same limestone gravel as the rest of the front garden. I didn't really want paving at the walls as I want to lower the ground level...

    Trenching for water pipe

Thanks Shytalkz. Where the supply will be coming up into the house is in the corner of a small alcove about 700mm wide and long to the side of the entrance porch (1930's semi). The ground is heavy with clay and the surrounding area outside (gravelled) takes some time to drain rain water...

    Trenching for water pipe

I'm going to be replacing my lead water supply in the next week or two. I've been told to dig the trench 2'6'' and come up through the floorboards at the front of the house. I've found out since the plumbing contractors left that the foundations aren't as deep as that. They are only a few...

    dri-coat/bonding

I'm thinking about using thistle dri-coat on a fairly cold wall which has had condensation and damp problems (dealt with). Would it be ok to use dri-coat on parts of the wall and bonding on others? Or would there be cracking along the join between the two?

    Solving kitchen floor damp

Replaced downpipe and hopper. Replaced section of soil stack. The clay bend starts straight away after ground level and the whole bend is cracked badly so I guess I will need to repair? with some sort of sealant or have the whole thing taken out.

    Solving kitchen floor damp

It's been a while but I will post some updates/photos on how I'm doing with the damp problem. Perry, regarding "rising damp"ness. It only looked like that on the plasterboard. The walls weren't wet up to a metre, just the plasterboard (and that was wrongly touching the floor. Does that...

    Removing iron soil pipe section

Thanks htgeng. The cast seems to be 105mm ED and 101mm ID. I see what you're saying about the reduction. I did wonder if the 110mm soil to drain adaptor would cause blockages. Not sure of any straight forward alternative though.

    Removing iron soil pipe section

Thanks. I was initially planning on removing the entire bottom section then trying to put it back along with the new adaptor. In other words, not cutting anything, just removing then replacing. I've gotten rid of the cement around the area and cleared away the debris from the collar...

    Removing iron soil pipe section

Hi all, Could anyone advise me if it is safe to remove the bottom section of a cast iron soil pipe and then put it back and reseal? I've read that when removing the whole thing you start at the top, but I just want to take the bottom bit out, fit a marley soil to drain adaptor (to repair...

    Solving kitchen floor damp

Thanks for all your suggestions so far. I decided to try to investigate the damp near the soil pipe and gulley first. I've not been able to spot any water coming down the pipe and am assuming it is a leak within the concrete box and joint between the pipe and ground collar. Symptoms: I...

    Solving kitchen floor damp

Thanks. I'll try creating a french drain and digging around old downpipes to check for leaks and consider replacing. If I replace the surface water and guttering drain which goes into the hopper, I'm guessing there's a better way to do that now rather than an overloaded always blocking up...
