    Earthing galvanised junction box

Ha ha, no, just someone trying to get a house in a decent area in London and pay off the mortgage. £140k isn't much round here, where you need a cool million just to have a fourth bedroom. Have been doing up houses whilst living in them for the past 10 years. Just had a baby this year, so the...

    Earthing galvanised junction box

Thankfully its not your house. Having flipped 5 houses now in the past 8 years and made good profits each time, i'm pretty sure I know my market. The industrial look is very popular in London and we'll be making about £140k in a year when this house goes on the market. No need to be such a...

    Earthing galvanised junction box

Iggifer, can't justify the cost of buying from them when I can do the whole thing separately for less than a fiver each! I'd love to do the whole galvanised conduit thing but the light switch is already buried in the wall and is outside the room so probably not going to happen. This is a way of...

    Earthing galvanised junction box

Not buying from historic lighting, just using that as an example as to how it will look. Bonding nipples already procured from QVS who also don't stock single hole junction boxes either. We took the advice of the previous reply who pointed out that conduit would be a dirt and grease trap in...

    Earthing galvanised junction box

Thanks guys. I'm afraid the last one won't work - its for ceiling lights (going to look something like this http://www.historiclighting.co.uk/product/ceiling-rose-pattress-cable-clamp-galvenised) so needs to be round. Thanks though. The other two I had looked at also, but unless I'm missing...

    Earthing galvanised junction box

Great, thanks. No, not using 4x but this was all I seemed able to get round here. Tried 4 different electrical suppliers and even eBay. Could you point to right direction please? Cheers

    Earthing galvanised junction box

Where would be the appropriate place to attach the earth wire when using a galvanised junction box like the one here to wire lights (using terminal block for connections) please? Do I just attach it to one of the screws?

    Connecting galvanised pipe without threading

Hey, maybe he's a great guy. Like I said, I can only respond to the reply he posted to my question, which didn't show him in such a great light!

    Connecting galvanised pipe without threading

Hey, can only go on the response I received from him, which was a bit of smug 'why didn't you plan it better' claptrap based on lack of knowledge of the situation. Not helpful, not friendly, and not nice!

    Connecting galvanised pipe without threading

I think you'll find Part P also dictates who can undertake what work and where domestic installers are required (and not required) to notify building regulations. From the NICEIC Part P factsheet: "The requirements of Part P apply to most electrical work in your home. There are however...

    Connecting galvanised pipe without threading

Thank you thank you everyone (except ban-all-sheds who's input hasn't been welcome or helpful, and who doesn't seem to understand Part P or the difference between changing a light fitting which is non-notifiable even in a kitchen and adding in extra lights to the loop which is). Very very...

    Connecting galvanised pipe without threading

Wow, that's fantastically kind of you, thanks! I can see you're from Leeds- my home town once upon a time. Leeds people are always lovely! I think we're looking at 3 or 4 bits of conduit of about 0.5-1m each but will have to plan it out fully before I could confirm. I may very well take you...

    Connecting galvanised pipe without threading

As far as I'm aware you are not under any obligation to apply for building regs to install light fittings, which in essence is all that is being done here. In fact I suspect they might laugh at me for wasting their time if I were to try! The full house rewire we had to undertake urgently before...

    Connecting galvanised pipe without threading

Thanks John, exactly what I was looking for. Don't know how i missed them! You could well be right on the price though. Didn't expect them to be so expensive. Though don't have anyone to borrow a pipe vice from unfortunately. Our kitchen is pretty industrial in style so should work well in...

    Connecting galvanised pipe without threading

Thanks John. I'm so confused now, as I've seen threadless conduit connectors for galvanised in my electrical merchants which conform to IP67 (in QVS http://www.qvsdirect.com/Quick-Connect-Conduit-Coupler-20mm-Push-fit-pr-25155.html but only for connecting straight lengths of pipe - hence why I...

    Connecting galvanised pipe without threading

Thanks for that. Thing is, nothing running through the pipe is earthed so not sure it's relevant? Bit hard to explain, but basically only running lighting flex from the main ceiling rose, so just twin flex. Does that matter?

    Connecting galvanised pipe without threading

We've been slowly doing up our house for a couple of years and it has all been very recently plastered and painted. I'm now looking at putting up new light fittings, but we've realised that our kitchen lighting design isn't ideal and would like to add in a couple of extra lights. The wiring...

Flat metal 'loops' for hanging radiator cabinets

Thanks John. Unfortunately these wouldn't work either as the cabinet doesn't have a flat surface to mount the plate onto. I need something with an L shaped fixing. After much searching I've just found these...

Flat metal 'loops' for hanging radiator cabinets

Thanks for the recommendation on the Keku fixings. I'd looked at them, but I'm not sure if they would be easily removable? It looks as though they clip in place, and I won't be able to get to them to unclip them to remove the cabinet. Am I wrong?
