    TRV wrong way round

Thanks for that, what about the arrow? it is a single headed arround and it;s been pointing the wrong way for a few years. Would years of use in the wrong direction damaged it? We normally leave turned to the max, the needle is still fine and pushes in and out whenI apply pressure to it.

    TRV wrong way round

My boiler installer just discovered that a TRV has been installed (many years ago) on the return CH pipe, on a bathroom radiator. Also the TRV has an arrow pointing against the flow! Performance wise we never noticed there being a problem, I know what needs to be done to put things right...

    Chasing depth

Is there a minimum chase depth requirement in the Part P regs, for wires to be concealed vertically or horizontally to accessories or the other permitted zones (e.g. along ceiling). Many thanks, this will help with my own planning queries, am not Part P myself.

    Replacement consumer unit

MICC... just read up on it, not sure if I should feel pleased or not! I guess it's a good thing, the other flats in the property are similar and I believe it was all done at the same time for the Council (ex-Local Authority property). Not sure how/where an isolator would be fitted, unless the...

    Replacement consumer unit

Please can I get some further advice? I have uploaded some pictures showing the work. The picture shows a large grey box at the bottom, this is where an electric cable enters from the left, the cable originates from the outside of the property. I'm not sure what the grey box is for?! Then...

Howdens standard wall cabinets and boilers

Hi there, I'm planning a kitchen install, using standard Howdens wall cabinets of size 720x500x290 (height x width x depth). In the kitchen is a boiler, again pretty standard as boiler dimensions go, 700x400x330 (excluding flue). The boiler is already hung and cannot be moved, so the...

Cooker switch for electric oven and gas hob ignition?

Yup am compeltely aware of Part P, I'm just having a lot of work prepared and this forum with my queries is helping greatly in my understanding of what will be needed. 3 days ago I didn't even know the difference between an RCB and a FCU. (okay... I can't define an FCU and MCB but at least...

    Replacement consumer unit

Yes am going to be prepared by getting the isolator in advance, am in the process of getting a few quotes on the work too. The advice regarding paperwork, the installation certificate I believe is the Part P related self cert bit, but I am not aware of the Building Control bit? Is this...

Cooker switch for electric oven and gas hob ignition?

Cable is was planned to go in 35mm deep chasing, with capping on top! It's all just planning at the moment (although that was suggested by electrician). I will take your RCBO suggestion on board rather than the old 'left of RDC idea', cheers for that. Oven is 3600W, (hob is say 1W), what...

Cooker switch for electric oven and gas hob ignition?

Planning to reduce the number of switches above kitchen worktop, but don't want to do away with them all! Can a single cooker switch server both an electric oven and gas hob ignition? Current plan is to have a 32AMP MCB on the non-RCD side of the CU, 6mm wire to cooker switch, then to 2...

Double pole isolator for Gas boiler

I have a gas boiler connected via a 3a plug to an unswitched socket, which is fine as per manufacturer's instructions below. But as the electrics are bring upgraded I'm going to take the opportunity to use the 'preferred' electrical connection, a double pole isolator: "Electricity supply A...

    Replacement consumer unit

Right... I have a much clearer understanding now. I have just booked EDF to come out to temporary disconnect electricity on Sept 3rd, I took their first availble date and they'll do this for free. They told me to ensure electrician does not tamper with electric meter seal, fair enough!

    Replacement consumer unit

After further reading this forum, the Isolator I understand sits between Meter and CU. (thanks to so many posts elsewhere!). And DNO stands for Distributor Network Operator, i.e. EDF. Just one more query on the topic... An isolator seems to look like this...

    Replacement consumer unit

Steve thank you for the quick response. I will raise these ideas with my electrician but would like to clarify, the Isolater sits before the meter? or between the meter and CU? Also, what do you mean by DNO?

    Replacement consumer unit

Hi there, I will be getting an electrician to replace my consumer unit with a much larger one, rather than adding a 2nd one. To do this, the electrician will require the prepaid meter present to be isolated. I contacted EDF, my electric board, who will come out and disconnect in the...

    Flue query (minimum distance)

Hi namsag, I did mean window opening.. I wasn't aware about the hole in the frabric of the building stuff. But, my question was are these distances a measure of the distance up to the flue body, or the flue/air intake opening (which can be extended using extensions). Kirkgas's reply was...
