Blanking plate with hole at the top for wire inlet?

Thanks for the help everyone. You're right - it would be better to install a new socket for the fridge than to terminate the wire. To that end, I've attempted to remove the trunking. I removed the clip, and after a bit of wiggling I am now able to bend it to the right. However, I can't pull it...

Blanking plate with hole at the top for wire inlet?

thanks. that's a cupboard it goes into at the top there, visible in the pic - so it's behind the cupboard.

Blanking plate with hole at the top for wire inlet?

Hi. I have just removed an old single wall socket. I am considering how best to blank off the wires - they are quite thick, and a fridge-freezer will now be backed up to the wall, so I guess it needs to be well-protected from the grill on the back of the fridge, and also as flat as possible as...

Taps loud whoosing after changing to quarter-turn using reviver kit

I recently replaced the glands and heads of two very old (20 years?) traditional sink basin taps using https://www.toolstation.com/lever-basin-tap-reviver-kit/p70902 - so they are now quarter-turn. However, they now make a loud whooshing/screeching noise - particularly on the cold side as it is...

How do I open up this old kitchen mixer tap?

the very top part above the handle? had a go but it's difficult to grip - wouldn't want to break it if I used grips or something and it turns out to not actually be a screw cap..?

Thanks. Had another look but can't find one. Has anyone come across this tap before?

How do I open up this old kitchen mixer tap?

Hi, I have an old kitchen mixer tap which has gradually deteriorated - it is now quite clunky and takes a lot of force to fully close it. I want to leave the plumbing alone if possible (so not replace the whole tap). However, firstly I can't see how to open it up - I can't see a cap to pop...

Car rattling after exhaust pipes and muffler replaced

What do you mean exactly - should the exhaust pipe at the back be facing upwards, not downwards? Was it installed incorrectly?

Car rattling after exhaust pipes and muffler replaced

A few weeks back, there was some rattling coming from my Hyundai i10. Checked the muffler and it was very loose, so figured that was the noise. It snapped off at one of the pipes on the way to the garage (had rusted through), so removed it, and there was no noise for the rest of the journey...

Paint or replace old bathroom radiator?

Have still not decided, but if I go down the replacement route, would I need two 2cm extensions, one 4cm extension or a 4cm+ adjustable one that I cut to size? 25 inches is not 64cm, so I guess 4cm of extension won't be exactly right - is there a specific extension piece available somewhere for...

Paint or replace old bathroom radiator?

Knew everyone would disagree on this! Thanks for the tips

Paint or replace old bathroom radiator?

Just because if it's similar effort to paint or replace, if it needs replacing in a few years I'll have done double the work! Depending on the quality of a very old radiator compared to a new one. Do you know if a replacement of the same size is available anywhere, or would I need an extension...

Paint or replace old bathroom radiator?

Will be decorating the bathroom, so figured I should take the radiator off. And it's an eyesore (paint is flaking all over, and some areas of rust), so shouldn't just put it back as is. It's an old central heating system with a back boiler, and don't think rads have ever been changed, or at...

How do I fix this slipped roof tile?

Ok. The other tiles all looked completely fine to me. I'm guessing yes, but is this one to get fixed urgently?

How do I fix this slipped roof tile?

Thanks. Do you think it would be a good plan to find someone working on a roof to do it in 15 mins using my tower? Or are they gonna need a ladder to get up there?

How do I fix this slipped roof tile?

I have a scaffold tower on rent for 2 more days from which I can (just about) reach this tile, so would like to fix it/pay some roofer to use my tower to fix it in the next 2 days. As pictured, the bottom one of the large roof tiles between mine and my neighbour's house slipped down a bit a few...

    Best way to repoint patios?

The front and back patios were neglected for many years, and were full of weeds. A few months back, I had a maintenance guy come round to work on them. Back patio - he pressure washed and nothing more. This knocked out a load of the existing pointing, leaving it a crumbly mess of empty channels...

Old back boiler and electrically heated water - energy bills

With all the energy price rises, I am reviewing my energy wastage. The CH in my house is a (very) old Baxi Bermuda back boiler. The heat exchanger was replaced around 5 years ago. It hasn't been serviced since, and occasionally the pilot light has gone out and I've had to relight it a few times...

Why aren't central heating biocides widely available?

Just had a thought - could I clean out the tank, then leave the tank empty (or even drain the whole system) until winter? Could I kill off the infestation this way, by starving it of water?
