Build a conservatory over a sewer question

It is not over it :) The manhole is elsewhere in the garden. When I first made the topic I thought that the pipe would be running beneath the very old concrete base that is there. The maps showing the drains etc., are very vague. The property was built around 1950/5 This is not a major...

Build a conservatory over a sewer question

Managed to get the drain cover off today- the drain is around 600mm below the surface and just misses the edge of the conservatory. So not going to worry too much. Unless someone thinks I should :)

Build a conservatory over a sewer question

Have I? LOL All I know is that it is not subject to building control, not any possible build over? The water companies website is not very helpful as it only talks about extensions and foundations. Thanks

Build a conservatory over a sewer question

It was very old conservatory type lean-to. I would say that it was erected in the 1960's. The concrete base is around 3.2m x 2.6m Yes, it will be a living space, but not subject to building control - they have confirmed it is exempt as is deemed to be a temporary structure and is...

Build a conservatory over a sewer question

Hello, Planning a conservatory in our garden. There will be no foundations involved, as it will all be surface mounted. The water company websites do not mention conservatories nor do they mention when no foundations are involved. This will be no different from any other temporary...

    B&Q /Trade Point Bathrooms - any good?

Need a bathroom to put into a refurb - needs to look okay, but obviously do not wish to spend the earth. The prices in Trade Point look reasonable. Just wondered if anyone had any views on them. Thanks.

    confused over light pull's

Thanks. So the 6A would be okay for the fans? Not decided on the fans yet, so no idea on their power - still looking.

    confused over light pull's

Hi, We require 2 light pulls (or maybe 3). One for upstairs main bathroom & one for downstairs WC. Looking at screwfix, I am confused as to which I need - 6A, 50A etc. The bathroom will have say 6 downlighters and an extractor fan (assume this can be own it's own pull cord, as can't see...

What could you use Cat5 for in the average house?

I was actually speaking more generally in this topic, hence why I didn't mention it, as I am curious as to what the benefits are these days, given home plugs and wireless systems etc. However sure it gets one thinking when doing a refurb - as I would not have thought it useful - but them...

is there any way to tell if a floor tile is asbestos or not?

We have some very thin tiles on our floor. These are pretty brittle and break easily. There is no backing of any sorts and there appears to be very little adhesive or anything beneath the tiles. They are broken in some areas and missing in others. Whilst I could cover them...

What could you use Cat5 for in the average house?

Thanks Chris. So for a house refurb that is being done purely for a resale and not to live in, running CAT6 (assuming that is the latest version) to a switch in a suitable location is probably enough. For AV - one would have no idea how any future purchaser might want their TV & Audio set...

Load bearing? / How to find an structural engineer?

Thanks - the joists currently run from front to rear. I will get a structural engineer in to draw up the beam for the builders etc.

Load bearing? / How to find an structural engineer?

They think it is not, however.... The span would be 17' 7" and the joists are 7" x 2" - this would go from the front wall to the rear wall. I am not sure if that is allowed? Thanks.

Communal aerial - how would you deal with it?

Thanks for the replies. It was originally council properties - all now privately owned to my knowledge. So the setup is clearly from those days. It would appear that the one aerial is serving the terrace of 5 properties and is on the middle house. Nothing was mentioned in the deeds...

Communal aerial - how would you deal with it?

None as far as I know - mind you it was probate and I am not sure the sellers would even have known themselves. Not sure what 'Did your solicitor check for easements or wayleaves' is to be honest :(

Communal aerial - how would you deal with it?

Hi, Just discovered that on our new house, the only aerial is on next doors chimney - not a problem, as we would probably erect our own. However the house on the other side also shares this aerial, which means their cable is on our soffits and runs across our property. We are about to...

What could you use Cat5 for in the average house?

Hi, What could you use CAT5 for in the average house? Would these all need to be routed back to a switch? Any advantage in installing this, or should I just stick with TV cable? Anything else, that I am missing that I should cable in whilst I have a blank canvas on all the walls in the...
