    Extending a wire

I've got to move one of our PIRs and unfortunately the distance is a bit further, so I've got to join a bit of wire in, as it's not possible to replace the whole length. What's the best and most reliable way of joining two lengths of alarm cable? Is it to solder them together, or just to...

    Some Sort of Pressure Problem

A friend of mine has a conventional gravity fed central heating system. Potterton Kingfisher floor standing boiler, hot water cylinder, expansion tank in loft etc. There's a problem at the moment whereby when the domestic hot water is on by itself, everything is fine. However, when he...

    Central Heating - Continually On!

A piece of cake. The old valve was a Sunvic one, and once removed, it was obviously in a bad way, as the rubber paddles looked very perished. The new Honeywell one looks a much better design with the ball, and operates very smoothly in comparison to the old one. Everything working OK at...

    Central Heating - Continually On!

I'm pretty sure the 3 port valve is faulty, so I'm going to take advantage of the long weekend to replace the whole unit. As far as I can make out, all I have to do is the following... 1. Turn off electricity. 2. Turn off supply to header tank. 3. Drain down system using outside drain...

    Central Heating - Continually On!

I've just felt all three pipes at the bottom of the valve. They were ALL hot, so not much to go on there. Someone mentioned switching off and on again, whilst listening for the motor. Could you give me some more information on this - ie in easy digestible steps?

    Central Heating - Continually On!

We have a 'normal' system. Cold water and expansion tank in the loft. Hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard. In the airing cupboard with have a three port motorised valve and central heating pump. Downstairs we have a Potterton Suprima 60 and time clock, and a thermostat in the living...

    Potterton Suprima Replacement

Is there anything else in there that it could be? I realise there's a fan on the flue, but is there any other suggestions on what the strange noise could be? Perhaps a pump? It sounds as if something's 'straining'

    Potterton Suprima Replacement

We have a Potterton Suprima 60 which has had the usual PCB replacement a while ago, but it's now started to make a strange noise (sounds like some sort of internal pump or fan). Rather than just spending more money on it, I think it'd be better to go down the new boiler route (I think it's...

    GardTec 595

Because I do mostly understand what I want to do, but I thought that the item's I'm not sure about, I could post here and ask someone who would be kind enough to reply. Yes, I allowed a zone for each device (ie mag contact or PIR). Yes, I did buy the zone expanders, but was told that they...

    GardTec 595

Well, following the mountain of trouble we had with our old Menvier alarm, we decided to take the plunge and install a brand new system. We used to have a Gardiner alarm at our old house, so decided to go for one of these, as they seem pretty easy to use and configure etc. The old Menvier...

    Menvier TS690 Part Set Problem

I'll try this when I get home and report back!

    Menvier TS690 Part Set Problem

I went to the Engineers Menu and tried to do a hardware relearn, but it won't let me do one. It obviously assumes everything is OK. Is it time to get the hammer out yet?

    Menvier TS690 Part Set Problem

There are two zones in this expander box, and the expander is a TS700 LEC. The two cables going into the expander clearly say zone 7 and zone 8, and are additionally marked garage and landing. So this must be where the problem lies, bearing in mind they're not showing up on the system! My...

    Menvier TS690 Part Set Problem

OK - I think I'm getting somewhere now, and I'm sure it's an easy fix, although I'm not sure how to do it. That last post got me thinking… Basically my system consists of the main panel, three remote keypads, and a zone expander box (which is marked 7 + 8 ) - these are the two zones that...

    Menvier TS690 Part Set Problem

Yes, I can confirm - they are definitely on night setting. I have just done a walk test via the user menu (rather than the engineer's). The two zones in question don't come on via a walk test. Graham Orpington

    Menvier TS690 Part Set Problem

No, no, no! I already check that. In fact, I've just been back and checked again. I also checked both zones either side of the problem ones. Zones 6, 7, 8 and 9 are both set as Type 1 (night) and they have no attributes (ie Access, test, omit etc etc are all turned off). Even...

    Menvier TS690 Part Set Problem

OK, the plot thickens... I did a full set on the alarm, then went into the garage, and activated the PIR (zone 7), and nothing happened. I then tried it again - full set of the alarm, then activated the PIR on the landing (zone 8). Again nothing happened. I then went into the master...

    Menvier TS690 Part Set Problem

Yes - it's my system - although not installed by me, it was installed by a professional company by the previous owner of our house. Yes - audible only - ie, it doesn't dial up to Red Care or anything like that. Good idea about testing the garage. I'm going to try that tonight and will...

    Menvier TS690 Part Set Problem

Yes, most strange. I saw that and double checked that they are set up as 'Night' zones. Although I can assign a name to them and programme the type of zone and its attributes, when it comes to programming them for omission, the system just completely ignores them!

    Menvier TS690 Part Set Problem

No, I can confirm those zones aren't set up as panic alarms. The zones look as though they're configured correctly, but as I say, when I try to configure the Part Set B, the two zones I need to get to are missing!
